JFET Vulcan Schem

I found the Jfet Vulcan layout in Gringo's downloads and threw one together - looked like a tame version of the emus I've been building lately...and MartyMart liked it .
I knew there was trouble when Q2 and Q3 drains were strange (WAY low)...oddly enough, Q1 was at just about 4.5V...  When I plugged it in, I had no sound... when I dimed the pots, there was a faint buzzing with the strumming...the Jfets need more voltage!!!!

Looks like the schem has been removed from the diystompboxes archive - anyone have it on their hard drive?  First thing that looks strange to me is that two of the diodes 'point' one way and the third 'points' the other...in the perf layout, they all face the same way... I flipped it around and still have no useful output... but if this inconsistency exists - I wonder what else might be wrong.  I'm just hoping the layout is wrong...otherwise, I have a broken part somewhere in the circuit (hate it when that happens...).
