This is slightly off topic, for a guitar build, but I thought you guys might be able to help.  I need 2p5t rotary switches that I can put in place of the pots in my strat.  I found these and thought they would work, but when I went to make the order I noticed that the shafts look way too long! >:(

Anybody know someplace I can find ones that will actually work?  I know mouser has them but their variety is mind-boggling and they don't have the pretty color pictures.  Part numbers would be great.

Bonus points if it'll fit in place of the 3-way on my LP as well.

Thanks so much

I don't think there are many with split shafts.

But if you're willing to replace your strat knobs with screwable ones (chickenheads for example :D), you can find a 2p6t switch at smallbear. Use the bonus click for killing the signal, for example.

Well, the knobs are already on the way, and I'm not particularly interested in chickenheads.

I've already got a kill position.  I'm going to use three of these, one for each HB, to get:
1-off
2-HB series
3-south
4-HB parallel
5-north

If nobody else comes up with anything I think I could go with that smallbear (stewmac is way too expensive, but thanks), smooth out the ridges on the inside of the knobs and add a second kill position at 6 or something.

JimRayden

Yeah, a kill position on either side, for easier access. Could be handy...

Yeah, Mouser has alphas with 5 positions for about the same price.  I'm a little worried that if I scrape the ridges out of the inside of the knobs they won't grip the shaft (ahem, fighting beavis mode) tight enough and just slide around, not actually switching.  I've got the original knobs from the guitar, so I guess I can try it.  If it doesn't work just return the new ones and replace them with tele-style knobs or something.

JimRayden

Don't scrape, drill. ;)

And while you're at it, you could drill a hole for the set screw and thread it. Then find a proper screw too. Could work... (not so sure about that threading part though)

Scrape was a euphamism.  Probably use a dremel.  I thought (briefly) about adding my own set-screw, but I don't think these knobs will take threading very well.  Mouser also has these with D shafts, but I'm thinking that would just be much worse.
