Hey, my first post! I have a USA Big Muff Pi that I use when I play bass. I love the sound, but I hate how it kills my low end. I know that changing a capacitor or two can allow more bass output, but I'm not sure what capacitor to replace, what kind to replace it with, and how to safely replace it. I would also like to put the whole thing in a smaller enclosure. Could you guys point me in the right direction as to how to do all this?

.1 uf incap and output caps ought to do it, as these tend to get TOO much bottom end and get muddy(which might sound like the lows are dying out depending on the amp). If it still needs more bottom, try .47uf, or 1.0 uf. The BMP shouldn't need much higher than that. Watch out for those hookup wires- they tend to be pretty weak sometimes.

Here's a page where a guy walks you thru rehousing a russian bmp, ought to give you an idea what you're up against-

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, it's the mid scoop in the tonestack that tends to cause you to drop out of the mix. The easy way to fix this is with an eq after it, but there are tonestack mods... do a search (up above) you should find some info 'bout that.

What I do with Muffs (and with bass friends Muffs):

Replace the 3.9 nF cap with a 22 nF cap
Replace the 22k resistor that goes with this cap with a 1k resistor in series with a 25k potmeter

Now you have a mid control; goes from no mids to mid boost. I have mine set at mid boost all the time because that is the only way I can cut through the mix with my bass
Am learning something new every day here
