Onboard LPB-1, now my guitar has static

Ok, I installed a LPB-1 onboard on my guitar, I'm using a DPDT switch to switch from LPB-1 to passive.  When set on passive it has pretty bad static and when I touch the strings it gets quiet, on the LPB-1 it is quiet, but I can still hear a slight change from when I am or am not touching the strings/bridge.  Any ideas whats going on?  I used a stereo jack to cut the 9v power when unplugged btw.

Sounds like a simple grounding issue. Where did you greound the board?

I grounded it to the back of the volume pot.  But it doesn't really have static (very little anyway) when flipped to the LPB-1, its when it is in passive that it is bad.  I ran the output from the volume up to the DPDT, then it either goes through the LPB-1 and out the jack, or through the jumper on the DPDT and out the jack.

Maybe a silly question, but is the back of the volume pot grounded?
If there's no static when engaged, could be that there's a ground loop somewhere in the bypassed signal path.

Yeah, its the "main ground" all ground points go to it.  And yeah, I think I have a ground loop somewhere.  I'm thinking I may need to run new wiring, I re-used a lot of old stuff and hacked in some new.  I'm gonna have to grab some shielded wiring and have a go at it.

Which bypass wiring are you using? The ungrounded input to the LPB-1 when bypassed might cause some issues, try using the cross wiring method if you haven't. I've got 3 effects on my guitar and with star grounding, it's really quiet even without shielding.

i'm almost sure that's a grounding issue also. very common problem with guitar. when you touch the strings/bridge it will make it better right?

get out the dmm and trace from the jack's shielding to the strings and find weak points of higher resistance.

Its wired for true bypass on the DPDT, the out wire going from the switch at the top of the wire to the output jack at the bottom of the guitar (and under the pickup) isn't shielded wire, I think that may be part of my noise issue.  And I have my battery next to the circuit up in the neck position cavity (no pickup there because that one died), and I think that having it go from battery -> under bridge pickup -> stereo jack -> under pickup again -> up to the LPB-1 might be causing my ground loop.  I'm going to get some shielded wire and put the battery down by the jack in with the volume/tone controls) and then run shielded wire for the output of the DPDT switch.  Hopefully those two things will solve my dilema.
