hey guys

i'm not very good at etching. im not that bad. i often have to steel wool and start again becaue some of the pen work is touching.

ive looked around for a particular vero that you pen and etch, but i cant find it. maybe it doesnt exist?

i want vero that has holes marked. i also want it to have grid between every hole. like cross-hatch.

that way i can draw over the lines i want to keep, and etch away the rest. this way i wont have to do dodgy soldering of the ends of resistors between holes.

does it exist? should it? ideas?

cheers

you can etch regular vero.  just mark over parts you want to keep.  i don't know about the grid thing.

That's not a bad concept, if I understand it right......a blank PCB, but with all the holes you would normally find in vero (or pad per hole).
So you get the flexibility of vero, or pad per hole, without any of the trouble of cutting tracks (in vero) or shorting everythg out (pad per hole).
I guess if Steve gets some made, he'll have the market to himself!

If you're going to go that far, why not just etch a PCB.....you'd be real close to what you'd be doing with vero.   :icon_neutral:

Do you mean this?

Where you have a blank copper pcb with holes drilled like vero or perf

or

Like this

Like perfboard with all the pads connected

I was thinking the top one (full copper).
But the lower one could be fun with a dremel :icon_twisted:

Or spots around the hole factory pre-protected with etch-resistant solder lacquer or removable film and then you only need mask those tracks you donĀ“t want to remove...

Was I dreaming or did this kind of idea pop up some years ago, I think somebody like Small Bear considered if he can find a manufacturer for this kind of stuff...

of the photos, i was thinking of number 2.

i think its a good idea.

just draw over the parts you want to keep and etch away the rest. if if you dont want to etch, you could dremel the rest away. :)

so, if anyone out there is from a vero board company, you have my permission to steal my idea and run with it :)

hope to see it in jaycar soon :)

I'd love to see something like this...you could just use a pocketknife to cut away the tracks!

It'd be nice but I doubt we would see it there!
Just like 2N5088/89's, J201's, 2N5457's, BS170's, BC108/9's, 3pdt footswitches and the list goes on...

Anyway what would this type of board be called? Checkerboard... Hashboard...

i think my idea is different to the one in that post.

you can buy pre-drilled boards with only the holes having copper around them here is australia. i think that is what they wanted in that post?? im not sure.

the problem with this is that you have to use wire (or the ends of resistors) to link all the pads together.

i would rather etch or dremel away around my circuit.

I believe that thread was about this kind of board, predrilled copper.
