haha...  Not at that stage yet.  I want a chorus really bad for those amazing spacy cleans, but they are mostly so hard!  Puzzle... heres your chance to create the So Simple Chorus!  Make it a series.  You can have phasers and all.  But a simple analog chorus would be great.

+1
But, I don't know if "simple" and "chorus" could actually be used to describe the same pedal.
That's kind of an oxymoron  :icon_lol:

KerryF

^-haha thats why I want him to design one!  ;)

puzzle87 is an amazing kinda guy, brilliant in fact.
I have to say that his comps have to be some of the most interesting new builds this year.
He can work magic it seems huh?
Don't know if a chorus would be possible. Magic is one thing, miracles, that's another.
PM him and make a request perhaps......if he designs it, I'm willing to do a layout for it!  :icon_wink:

What next for modulation... chorus would be great!  Maybe the Zombie Chorus...

haha Gilles.  Thats what I was thinking.

EDIT: This may be a good place to ask...  Has a 555 Timer chip ever been used for a tremelo effect?  If not, do you think its possible?  I may try to come up with something if its possible.  :)

go and look at the tremolo project on the Small Bear site, it uses the 555 for its LFO

I've been thinking about using a 555 for something stupid like actually switching the power to a simple circuit on and off for a tremolo effect, but I have no idea if you'd get a bunch of popping or anything else like that (I need to get around to breadboarding it just for the heck of it)

Most soundclips.  Same setup.  My Valve Junior was up at about 2.5 volume and was crazy loud  :icon_twisted:

1. PRS Vintage Pickup (Bass/Neck Pickup).  It has that smooth, great tone. http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album90/Cannon_Rock
2. PRS Hot Fat Screamer Pickup (Treble/Bridge Pickup) for most of it.  Then the Vintage Pickup for the solo. http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album90/Voodoo_Child

Wow it's brutal, I love it...!
Is there any info on this things methodology around? - Can't seem to find anything.
Is there a way to independantly adjust the attack?
Is there another quiet alternative to the 2SK170? these may be hard to find in the UK.

Grant.

here's a cool simple wierd one. Now if those clicks are tameable...

I am not responsible for your imagination.

Well its actually the BluesBreaker overdrive and the amp's tube overdrive thats giving the overdrive.  The compressor gives none.
Theres a whole thread on this thing somewhere.
I dont quiet know the full meaning of attack, but it has a compression pot with a trim pot to set maximum compression, another trimmer that controls voltage to the trannies, and a level pot.
Heres the layout I used: http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album77/So_Simple_Comp_V2_perf_LAYOUT from Mark.  It has the different trannie values.  J201s and a BS170.

J201 works fine in this circuit, that's what puzzle told me to use in place of the 2SK170 which apparently are quite common in
the Ukraine.

Ok, about to put the bypass switches on the Sparkle Boost and Compressor.  Now should the Sparkle Boost go pre or post Compressor?

You do realize this is about to open a brand new discussion here with a wide variety of opinions.  :icon_neutral:
Both circuits would benefit from being first in the signal chain.

KerryF

^- yea sorry.  just want to see really quick because I am putting the switches.  i guess i will do the compressor first so that the boost, boosts the volume of it.

markm

KerryF

OK!

Finished hooking everything up.  Bypass switches, LED, Battery, Jacks, Power Switch, etc...  All looking like a crazy wirey mess right now, but working!  This sounds SICK through my Valve Junior.  The Sparkle Boost pushes the tubes over-the-top!  Even with the boost on low, it makes some tube overdrive.  With it on high, some amazing tube overdrive.  Then with the compressor, it all comes together and sounds great.  This can be a high gain tube overdriver, to a clean enhancer all in one box!

Pictures:

It has an orange LED as you can see.  Looking messy now, but soon it should be boxed up and ready for some final sound clips!

So I am boxing it up now.  I have the top of the enclosure drilled.  I tested it for the final time (yes it still works, dont worry) and it seems the gain pot on the Sparkle Boost was reversed.  So I switched the leads.  Its still reversed...  Is this just me, or should it be doing that for some reason?

EDIT: Switched the leads again and the pot is still backwards...  ???

Meanderthal

That... dosen't make sense. I know this might sound stupid, but all I can think of is that somehow with the wires being all green you must be wiring it the same over and over... I know it's ridiculous, but that's the only cause I can think of...

I think we're as perplexed as you are 800. :icon_confused:
