Hey guys.  I finally finished my So Simple Compressor V2!!!

Wow!  This thing rocks!  Probably in my top builds!  Absolutely no debugging or anything.  Thank you so much Puzzle and everyone who helped for the design, and Markm for the great layout!  I added the pots finally to this thing and turned it on through my Valve Junior.  It sounded sick!  I could get great bluesy solo compressed light tube overdrives and all.  The two trimpots are cool because they change the amount of gain that can be added, and max compression.

You guys HAVE to build this if you havent.  Theres no noise in it either.  This thing is getting boxed up with my Sparkle Boost for a great clean box.  :)

Thanks again to all of you.  I can post soundclips if wanted.

Soundclips probably tomarrow.  Happy Thanksgiving!  :)

The build looks great 800!
Glad you like the circuit, I think it's fantastic which is why it surprises me there haven't been any other build reports besides yours.
It truly has its own character and tone and being so-simple, makes it a fun easy build that's useful too!
Enjoy!

Thanks

Like I said earlier, through my Epi Valve Junior it sounds great when the tube overdrive starts to kick in with the compressor.  Then you coil tap the pickups (Change humbucker to single coil), and great blues tone.

I tried it with my BluesBreaker too.  With the BluesBreaker before the compressor, you get the nice Bluesy light overdrive.  Then with the BluesBreaker after the compressor, you get more gain thats a bit tighter.  :)

Mark, if you can remember, do you know what you set the trimpots to?  It seems like the sound is VERY dependent on those trimpots, and you can change the sound in so many ways using them.  I just want to see what other people like them set to.

Soundclips here!
Descriptions:
*These soundclips are recorded in this setup: PRS Custom 24 Ten-Top>Marshall BluesBreaker>So Simple Comp>Valve Junior Head>Mic>Camera.
*Some parts are coil tapped (single coil) and some are just regular humbucker.
*The very clean acoustic sound is when coil tapped and guitar volume on 2-3.
*You can see some of the settings in the video for the pedals and amps, but mostly full compression, and full gain on the BluesBreaker.

Okay,  why haven't I heard about this Simple Compressor before? :icon_confused:  Has anyone tried a bass with this comp?  I'll be breadboarding this one up after Thanksgiving.  This may be the small compressor I've been looking for to put in my personal headphone amps that I've been building.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!!

Yeah is really odd that I missed this one.  I'm always going through layouts and schems and bugging and bothering everyone in this forum it's amazing I don't recall seeing it before. ???

Thanks Marty.  That mic is horrible!  Its one of those computer mics that are like $2 but its great for filming one way and mic-ing the amp.

Mark, whats V1 like?  You try that one yet?

BTW, I changed the .33uF (C5) to a electrolytic 2.2uF.  It was taking me forever to find the .33uF, and it was all I needed to finish it, so I just gave up.  It sounds great though, so I dont know what it would sound like with the .33

I've built all of my layouts.
Everything posted in there is verified unless it states under the picture that it's unverified  :icon_neutral:
The V1 is a good simple comp too and is very close to the V2 however, the V2 is VERY quiet in comparison.
V1 is quiet but not as quiet as V2.
Also, V2 seems a bit more "non-coloring" (hey....how's that for avoiding the term "transparent"  :icon_exclaim: )
than the V1 comp.
I think they are both Fantastic in their own right and puzzle87 did a great job with both designs.
I also can imagine their could be some fine mods for these circuits too.

KerryF

Transparent, or "non-coloring", is always great.

Im glad that I am finally getting outside of my overdrive/fuzz/boost stage (the beginner builder stage).  I have my drive tones (hopefully will become final with the Thunderchief), now I need my clean ones.  For clean so far I have the Sparkle Boost, So Simple Compressor, and the Phase 45 Univibed (in the making)...  What next for modulation... chorus would be great!  Maybe the Zombie Chorus...

markm

Yeah that may be a good one.
If you want a perfboard challenge, build the Small Clone  :icon_lol:
