Hey, I know it's not quite diy effects but anyway, I'm looking at buying a crap guitar and putting one of those organ kits from dse or jaycar in using regular momentary switches for keys and a seperate line out for it, problem is all the kits and schems i've found have an 8ohm speaker for an output.

So the question is this; Is there a way of converting the 8ohm impedance to a normal line out without a bulky transformer OR is there a schem out there for a simple diy organ thingo with a lineout... thanks for any light anyone can shed on the subject

Is that a plastic washing basket?

a lot of kits will work fine just replacing the speaker with a jack.  i would just add a volume pot of some sort inbetween the circuit and the jack.

thanks for the heads up

My understanding is that running an amplifier directly into another amplifier can destroy amp #2, so I would proceed with caution.  I might at the very least try it with a cheapo amp before I plugged it onto my Dumble (BTW, I don't actually own a Dumble).

I think he's talking about the ... err... 'amp' in a 555 chip, which would make it the equivalent of the 1/4 in jack out on an APC which shows an 8 ohm speaker on the Forrest Mims schematic. I have also soldered 1/4 in jack outs into Casio keyboards directly from the speaker out and it works just fine. We're talking maybe a half watt output. Wouldn't be much different than any of those 386 based distortions. I really don't think there's much to worry about here in this case.

Try a voltage divider before or maybe just a small value pot to tame the output?
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

I agree- a volume pot would be quite helpful especially for matching output level to something close to the guitar's. I forgot to mention that although those Casios work just fine (and the APC) they are pretty loud compared to a guitar... of course, those already have a volume control, but some of the simple 'organ' schematics I've seen don't seem to have any at all.
BTW, I would recommend one tuned with resistance(trimpots), the Forest Mims one (or anything similar)with multiple caps will be impossible to fine tune.

Now, if you were really ambitious, you'd roll your own Guitorgan!

Yeah, the guitorgan was the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread's title.

I have wanted a guitorgan for years, but something tells me it wouldn't live up to my expectations.
