So, I've been playing around with my new (and first) compressor and I have to say it seems to really like my Tele and seems to really lend itself to Chicken Pickin'

At any rate, is there any generally accepted idea regarding the placement of compressors in the signal chain?  I ask because I've never owned a compressor and don't really even know how they work.  Ultimately, I'll stick it wherever it sounds best but was just curious.

Thanks in advance.

I always use it first in the chain.....well, Most of the time.
Teles love compression  :icon_biggrin:
Ross and Dynas are great for chicken-pickin' as well as pedal steel stuff.
Hope this helps.

I use it first, the only thing that typically gets put before it is something that responds to note envelope, like envelope filters, or a noise gate with a side chain like the NS-2.   But that doesn't mean you can't get some unique sounds with it later on in a chain of effects.

First! I've also found that the compressor will help tame an unruly envelope follower, if you don't overdo the compression...
I am not responsible for your imagination.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
