I like Eurotubes...affordable, and Bob over there is a nice guy who will work with you to find a solution based on your needs.  I think it's just www.eurotubes.com.

NOS tubes aren't exactly the best buy :)
www.banzaieffects.com has very nice offer of tubes for guitar amps. I got some JJ's from them, and they accept PayPal

Are sovtek bad ? as far as I have seen they are the cheapest ones

bancika

Define "bad" :)
As far as I know they are ok, haven't tried them thiugh. I have two JJ 12AX7's and three EI 12AX7 and like them all. JJ's are a bit more warmer, while EI's are a bit sharper and more aggressive. By the way, I live in town where EI factory is located :)

I don't like the Sovteks much at all...they're harsh and have sort of buzzy distortion.

Rafa

Which one would you use?
How about:
EH?
JJ tesla?
Sino China Shuguang?
This three others are also cheap
The sovtek were considerably cheaper compared to the other ones maybe for a first tube project (premap) they are not so bad, are they?

Of the 3 choices you listed, I would go for the jj tesla!

Please, don't waste your money and time on the Shaguang tubes. The pair of 12ax7 I bought(because they were cheap) sounded horrible.

For power tubes I would recommend Svetlana. Seriously.

Given a choice between EH, Sino, Sovtek and JJ  I'd pick the JJ's EVERY time.  They aren't the best out there but in this price range and considering you might be retubing an entire amps worth of tubes, you can't beat 'em - they're dependable and sound pretty darn good.  By the way, don't ever get into the bad habit of experimenting with NOS tubes - you think an addiction to stompboxes is bad! :icon_wink:

The sovtek 12ax7 are at 5,35 euros each
The JJ a 12ax7 at 6,73euros each
Tell me your prices
remember I live in uruguay so cheap shipping is very important, the shipping form germany to here I think its not more than 10 euros by German postal service

Ahhh, but those Telefunkens...

Seriously, that's good advice! The new eastern european tubes will get you there and cost much less.

Seems that every time I try to buy cheap and save $5, the tubes I get go microphonic and sound like crap.  I haven't yet beat the JJ's ECC's I get from Eurotubes...I've had 2 microphonic EH's... ;)

IIRC those prices are with VAT which doesn't apply to customers outside of EU which means that prices are actually ~18% lower

I've had good results with JJ's and EH for 12AX7 and EL84's.
There was a "glut" of NOS Brimars and Mullards a couple of months ago on Ebay, seems like when there's
a LOT of the stuff, the prices stay sensible :D
It was one seller "Bear Kola" selling his fathers collection and there were thousands !
I got around 25 various ECC83/82/81 and EL84's for about £100, most of them are worth three times that
when Ebay is "low" on NOS tubes  ... :D

Stuck sets in my DIY 5 watter/Epi VJ with lovely results ... Dont get hooked though, it can cost an arm and a leg
to get hold of these most of the time !!

The Mullards DO have "mojo" - the sweetest/warmest drive that I've heard in a long time   :icon_mrgreen:
Two of them were produced the same month that I was born !!
