I was looking for some good box layouts...it's such a pain to go through and measure it all out each time, some paper templates would be awesome...anybody got any?  Ones for the Smallbear 1590BB and B type clones would be great.

But anything would be great...dealing with the enclosure is an under acknowledged hassle IMO.

I have some Photoshop enclosure templates if those will help you.

liakos

mark why don't you post them to your layout gallery  ;)it would be nice!!!

YEAH MARK!!! :icon_lol:

It's amazing if you think about it; thousands of pcb and perfboard layouts all over the web and there're just a couple of good box templates available.

Yep. I expected that after I put the first one up, years ago, that there would be box templates everywhere. I guess it just shows that the number of people giving away free design stuff is limited.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

I don't think it's that R.G.

I use a new template for each effect project. Even the projects that consist of just one pot, a switch, and LED need to have them in diferent places depending on the PCB size, if theres a battery, the planed artwork, lots of variables.

I want to experiment with unique control placement that ties in with the art for each pedal.
I need a new template for that.

So one fixed template for a one-knob pedal is limited.
And as soon as someone creates something like a 3 knob template there will be requests to "move the pots a little to the left".

I think what you did RG was to teach us about the paper drill template. Now anyone with graphic layout software can make their own.
As soon as I saw your pdf file I headed over to hammondmfg.com and downloaded the CAD files for the 1590B boz and applied your template to it.
I was catching my own fish at that point.

Then I took it a step farther by downloading the CAD files for the Alpha pots in 16mm and 12mm sizes. I measured other stuff by hand like the DC jack and 3PDT switch and used geometry to represent their shape and dimensions. Now I can assemble a virtual pedal in the CAD software and know fer sure how everything fits together before drilling. Print it out tape it to the box and I get between 1/8 and 1/16th of an inch tolerance.

Here's your template in action. I have not used this one since this 4 knober project.

I have my original artwork for the Tremulus Lune available in the gallery.

I've thought about posting all of my artwork for my enclosures........
But, the actual templates I have are actual size and are in Photoshop format so my guess is, they'd only be useful to those with Photoshop.
However, I could post them and they could still be useful to somebody by resizing them for whatever graphic program you use.
I don't think this is an incredibly "original" idea but, what I do for making new artwork or a template is simple....
I scan the enclosure to actual size in photoshop and do all of the artwork in layers  :icon_idea:
Like I said, not a terribly exciting or original idea but hey.....it DOES work

Here is another pic that shows R.G.'s style template for the top and side view.

This showed me that the back of the pot will just barely clear the DC jack.
I can also see how much room I have under the jack for the PCB.

He he he! I just thought I would chime in as a complete newbie...I just learned the hard way about planning out box space more carefully. I'm finishing up Nurse Quacky and mounting everything in a "Taiwanese B-side box" from Small Bear. I mapped my holes out making sure everything was proportionally spaced, pots fit, etc... I start mocking everything up, and guess what!!! No room for a battery!!! Guess this one will be a dedicated wall-wart box.  :)
Lesson learned.

If you could upload the .PSD files that would be fantastic!
(Are these the Taiwanese boxes?)

Barcode80

mark, i know the one you sent me doesn't seem to be this way, but maybe if the circles were each individual layers to themselves, then people could move them around as they see fit.

It possible to "cut & paste" them within Photoshop also.
That's what I do alot.
The problem with trying to post actual sizes is exactly that.....the sizing.
However, if you scan the top of your enclosure and dowload a pattern, it is possible to adjust it to the correct size using a seperate layer in the Photoshop program.

Btw...does anybody know the dimensions for the Taiwanese boxes?

And Mark those PSDs would be great to have.

Thanks for the outlines Mark.

They're for the authentic Hammond boxes, right?  Where do you get them from?

You are welcome.
These are templates for the Taiwanese "B" and "BB" enclosure.
They're both borders that leave about a 1/16" on the top perimeter of the enclosure.
When used the border looks like this

Just wondering if I could get a copy?
Thanks!
