Multiple channel switching

Dear all

I'm working on a multi-channel - well to break it down, it's a single-channel tubescreamer with thrice the amount of controls, so I'm able to use different settings with just my foot. I am also planning to make a compressor with 4 different pots for each setting.

Now my question is: How shall I wire this? How can I make pressing one switch "turn off" the other?

I've seen Analog Mike has a seperate switch on his BiChorus, that switches from controls A to controls B. The thing I'd like is (on the compressor) 4 controls, where a tap on button 1 activates compressor setting 1, a tap on button 2 deactivates setting 1 and activates setting 2, etc.

If we simplify it a bit to two separate controls, I'd say the easiest solution is to built two separate tubescreamers and put them into the same box. Then you can use a DPDT to switch between them. The pots and switches are the expensive parts, so it won't really cost much more.

Switching between three separate things requires electronic switching if you want to be able to select 1 of 3 with a single stomp.

I don't really see the point of having three or four presets on a single stompbox though (but I'm sure you have a good reason for this). You can always use the guitar volume to control the amount of gain. I'd seriously consider building three different overdrives instead to get better variation.
