After building the 77' OD250 using MarkM's layout, I got a hold of JHS and asked some specific questions about the different versions of the DOD 250 overdrive. He gave me lot's of usefull information. I also don't use PCB's due to the chemicals, pnp etc... so I redrew some perf layouts using the PCB's from Phillip's site FuzzCentral. Below are four versions of the 250. I noticed a lot of times that a 47k is used instead of a 4k7, and a 1M instead of a 470k. JHS sent me some great pics and I've been searching the net for gut shots also. Based on what I have seen and the info sent to me, these layouts pretty much represent the true DOD OD250. I have built all four from these layouts and they are verified to work. Thanks JHS, Phillip and MarkM for your work. Here are the layouts:

Wow thanks !!!

I was about to build one of these just to check how it sounds. The plan is using it as a stand alone pedal ,how similar is it to a dist+ soundwise?

Great layouts !!! I have the same concerns about chemicals living in a 65 square meters apartment...!

Nice work :D Now all four are out there  !

To my ears, the OD250 has a warmer sound than the Dist. +. If you are using a tube amp that already has some gain, this pedal brings in the extra edge the amp alone lacks. I use it more with the volume knob almost maxed and the gain knob between 10:00 and 1:00. Also, despite all four being very close part wise, there is a noticeable difference between all. I actually boxed the 77', 80's yellow and the 308 up in one enclosure so one DPDT footswitch is bypass, the other DPDT footswitches between the 308 for solo boost or the 77'OD or 80's yellow (switchable also) for rythym. That way I can have a really good rythym tone going then "pre set" the 308 for a louder boost with more gain. The .001uf pair in the 308 I left alone as it cuts through alot better. I'll definitely take a picture and record some sound clips soon.

Didn't the gray version have Ge clippers, or am I thinking of the Dist+ ?

I could be wrong but I think that was only the Dist + and not the OD250.

I've got about 30 different pics of DOD 250 board shots, both Gray and Yellow versions (no re-issues). All I have ever seen is one pic that clearly showed 1N4001's (JHS found this pic) and the rest all have 1N4148's. I'm not sure about the YJM308 though, maybe 1N914's?

Also, forgot to mention above that all electros are a 10uf/4.7uf pair, not a pair of 10uf's. Only exception was the very early 1977 250 that had a single 22uf (JHS found the pic for this one).

Here's one to add to the collection.  This is my  early 80's 250.  It is closest to teh YJM circuit, the only differnce I see is mine has a Tl081 op amp.  Hmm.... strange.  It's stock though.  My brother bought it new in 83 or so and gave it to me when he scored a DS 1 for chrismas the following year.

Thanks again. The plan is to use it as a stand alone overdrive. Judging from the samples, it sounds edgy, which I like,,,,,
