i've been building for some friends to get the word out locally, and i have a friend who uses a line 6 pod, and nothing else, when he plays. all he wanted is a booster. great, problem solved, i mad him a may boost. problem is, since he is running it in the signal chain between his guitar and the pod, the boost is only driving the pod distortion harder, not boosting. the pod has no effect loop, so the only way to achieve a good transparent boost would be to run the boost between the pod and the DI. i was wondering if there is a way to do something like the may boost but with a truly balanced xlr in and out. any ideas?

If what you want is a volume leve increase (or solo boost), why not just program the presets on the POD to have the appropriate volume?

There have been a few threads on the forum recently about balanced in/out. They should contain some links about how to do balanced in- and outputs. The cheap way is to use opamps. The expensive way is to use audio transformers.

Hunt for a mic preamp schematic, then mod to taste.
