I used a 39k biasing resistor from +9v, which should work just fine for most decent germaniums in this circuit.

Old school.

Nice...

I used a stripboard to build mine, and adjusted it for 5V at the collector. But when I tried it with my guitar, it was sounding weak. So I'll have to do more testing. (I stopped working for a few days while I try a Tele copy I bought...)

I like the idea of a terminal strip just like the old time.

Haha terminal board.  I have that same one from Radio Shack that I have two jacks and a battery connected to so that I can easily test pedals after I put them together.

I've been building lots of small boosters etc. on terminal strips, it's so easy.

Cool stuff.

Kinda funny how you can't edit...
Figured out the schematic, should be a pretty cool little booster!  I have a good idea of what it should sound like; I've got a light sort of fuzz that is VERY similar, I built it a while ago when I had no idea what I was doing.  It's got something like a 680Ω at the emitter, but with a bypass cap so it's pretty gainy.  The gain knob (100k?) is just a pot at the collector of one of Aron's germaniums, and then it's got that 3.3M in the same configuration.  I stumbled across it, liked it, and now I've been using it for quite a while.  It's got a huge boost too.

Must be long lost twins or so.  Very similar setup.

if you do a search for "cream pie", you'll find the schemo...its about a 10 page thread...

:o

Dunno how I missed that 13 page monster!

This forum doesn't have an adequate "Cheers, you r00l d00d!" smiley so I've hijacked one from another forum:

Any chance you could post the schematic for the other circuit you speak of?

Ok, I was having a real crappy morning until I read this. Made me smile--I love non-standard thinking!

In the same spirit, here's a no-PCB thing I did for the red llama:

Pretty easy with one of those wire-wrap dip sockets.

Keep up the great insanity!

Very interesting indeed
Thanks for sharing.

Yep, it's almost identical.  I'll build the Cream Pie and see how it compares.  I don't expect much difference.

I must say I am surprised.....where did you find this circuit? -or- is it yours?  ???

rockgardenlove

I don't totally remember.  It's been boxed up for a long time now, probably nearing a year, but I think I made it up.  I had no idea what I was doing back then, so if it was me it's quite likely it was totally random.  I've never seen anything like it before this.

???

I just added a switch to take out the bypass cap, without the cap it's almost the same as the stock Cream Pie.  Essentially two cool boxes in one now.

Hey Dragonfly !!!

I just built the Cream Pie using your strip layout

Very cool!!

couple of questions

this one may be silly but how come the strip layout doesn't have an electrolytic cap and the vero does ??

If I flip the tranny to use the red dot as the collector will I get more gain ??

by the way I only had two 2.2meg resistors and a .056 output cap, will these make a big difference

Again thanks for your help and all the contributions

the electro on the vero layout is for power supply filtering.

OC140's can be "flipped"...try it and see if you like it :)
