Cool little fuzz Doug !

Speaking of "386 fuzzes", HERE'S one thats been in my folder forever :) .  Easy to build, pretty versatile, etc, etc.

Also, Colin's PARALLEL UNIVERSE is a cool 386 based fuzz.

hmmmm,
diodes between the gain pins, never got that to do anything.
looks cool though!

TELEFUNKON

anybody measured the current drain?

MartyMart

Sounds real good Doug :D
Breadboarded, with a "Fetzer" front end & gain control into the 386
Added a "starve" 5k trimpot to the chip from 9v - that's nice, gets real "meltdown" at
4 volts !!
One of the most rewarding 45 mins for a while !!  :icon_wink:

glad you dig it!
try different types of diodes too!
germaniums and schottkeys both sounded cool.
the output cap also changed the vibe of the intermodulation alot as well.

anyone think a 4558 would work with this?

No, the 4558 is an op-amp, the 386 is a power amp.

Barcode80

quick layout, let me know of any errors

doug deeper

couple errors!
the chip is a 386, a 4558 wont work....and the output isnt labled.

Gus

The boss heavy metal(metal zone?) has a stage like this if I am remembering correctly.  Someone posted a HM schematic years ago and I seem to remember a deadzone diode array at the ouput of one of the opamps.

KerryF

Barcode- Move Vol Lug 3 to the strip right above it.  And fix the IC Chip type.  Everything else is fine.

output = lug 2

gonna try this one!!

other errors on the layout?

b2thea

moved the wire of vol lug 3
removed 1 strip (making the ground on 1 strip, instead of 2)
made it a 386 chip

removed the names :P

Barcode80

hehehe, i'll make those corrections to the layout in my gallery. habit made me type 4558 :) vol 2 is output as indicated at the bottom of the image.

Barcode80

okay, i corrected my version, but i left the extra ground strip so that the pot lug wires are coming from the same side. personal taste. :)

b2thea

why do you connect lug 1 to the board instead of on the normal ground?

Barcode80

i always like to wire all my grounds from chassis ground (from sleev lugs of the jacks) to one spot on the board. so i usually use that spot as like a star ground.so i put the strip there also as the point i will wire all the other grounds to.

oh, and freakout is cooler as one word.  ;D

Gotta love the way the 386 dosen't need bipolar power! Makes these circuits just incredibly simple... Any other opamps work/pinout that way? Maybe something lower gain or not a power amp? Just curious...

you can get some nice cleanish sounds out of the 386 by adding some attenuation on the input and not bridging the gain pins.
still has a decent amount of "boost" in this mode as well.

Meanderthal

Heh- I'd be more inclined to attenuate the output and keep the distortion. I might even throw switchable diodes in the gain loop, and a tonestack after it...
But I was thinking more on the lines of super simple buffers(yeah, I know) or maybe basic gain stages to use as possible 'shortcuts' in other circuits... multiple opamps might be a problem though... nah.
