The transistors don't really make THAT much difference, not as much difference as cap values and clipping diode type!

I've built a modified clone of my Blue/Silver Sovtek, the predecessor to the first issue Green.  I had 4148's in there and I never felt it sounded as good as the Sovtek.  I changed them to 1N914s and it sounds just like the clipping on the two Silver and two Greens that I've owned.

Those are 2N6263 (Schottky diodes); stick with si diodes as I find them quite irritating sounding
