Gary, we know who you are and we know where you live.  You can not stop now.   :icon_twisted:

I remember when I first saw the Thunderchief, and thought the guys on the forum are going to go nuts over this.  I was right.   :o

Everyone greatly appreciates the work ROG does, the great sounds, the learning opportunities, the debate sparked, the professional presentations, etc. all for free.   :icon_cool:

Yikes!!!!

Gary, It's understandable that you feel this way. I'm sorry that you do though.
ROG is a great resource and I heve spend a lot of time there studying and listening to the clips.
I have a hard enough time building some desings yet alone designing them.
This takes a long time and I appreciate your effort!!!!!!!!
I'd hate to see you stop offering you support and projects here or at ROG.

I didn't mean to imply that the Thor circuit was flawed - and I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone (Gary - PM sent).
I greatly appreciate everything the ROG guys do - for free - for this community.
I've built almost all of the JFET work-alikes from ROG and this forum with great success (a few took two builds...but they worked in the end).
I must be doing something dumb in my Thor builds - hopefully I'll get it figured out in my troubleshooting thread.

Again - I apologize if I offended anyone.
ROG Rocks!
Mike

PS> Marty - sorry for derailing the thread - I just started my own.

Mike, you have now seen firsthand the biggest problem with Internet forums -- lack of body language and other visual cues.

MartyMart

I've been away for a few days, at a funeral for a family member, so have missed what happened here.
Let me just add this info for anyone attempting the Thor circuit :
First, My build WORKS 100% and at first power up, following the schematic exactly.
Second, it sounds GREAT :D
Third, I deviated slightly from some values, in a "it's all I had" way with NO problems.
Fourth, I popped in the first Jfets "out of the baggie" and had NO issues at all.

I have emailed Gary, but did this before reading this updated thread, so Gary, PLEASE dont
stop your stellar work on circuits, it's much appreciated and would be sadly missed, though I
understand your feelings, having posted many new designs and layouts, often without so much
as a "thanks" !!  ...... I now do it without expecting anything ( when I can be bothered, and some
little crackers, I'm keeping to myself !! )
Regards,
Marty.

Just wondering, why there are like only 4 reviews total for RunOffGroove designs (none for the Thunderchief) at Harmony Central? I know many people hate HC reviews with a passion, but it all helps get the word out, helps people decide on a circuit to build, and is also a small way to say "thanks" to the very kind folk at ROG.  :-)

I am totally stoked with my Eighteen (built from an OLC kit) and have just posted a review. I am lovin' it with my strat! Thanks ROG team, what an awesome circuit!

did you write one?

Keep in mind that the reviews are, as far as I've read, only for the OLCircuits.com kits of runoffgroove.com projects.  Most DIY-fx builders submit their opinions at forums like this, rather than a commercially oriented venue like H-C.

I said in the same post that you quoted: "have just posted a review". It is most likely still being processed.

Understood. It's nice having the opinions in a central location though. But point taken. Cheers.  :)

Ej Gary! Eventhough I'm still pretty green around here, do know I appreciate your (and others) work a lot! I learn a lot from it and, my first build of 2007 will be...the Thor! Don't let frustration eat you inside out! Thanks for the schematic and the prototyping!

sorry, grolschie: I misinterpreted your post for having posted that review in this forum - my apologies!

No problem bro. I understand how we all can get the wrong end of the stick very easily sometimes on forums. Haha, see, I thought you meant HC. :)

Gary, just want You to know. The ROG was the reason for me to get in to this wonderfull hobby. The site is very informative and beginner friendly. After building the Eighteen for my first project I've built about 30+ pedals for myself + that leading to build 4 tube amps so far, and that being on about 3 years time.
By getting me alone into this hobby, I bet the ROG has been a source of inspiration for thousands and thousands of players and builders. Think how much beautiful and rocking music has been played/recorded with the ROG circuits.

When I first read about the Thor ( I was very happy to see a ROG project again) on the forum I immediatly desided to build that one, and will too  :icon_cool:

I think mydementia was frustrated after two unsuccesful builds and said something he/she shouldnt have been said (or did not meant to).

Just wanted You to know and would like to thank You for Your effort.

interesting that I built the circuit from two layouts and have the same malfunction... grrr...
I haven't seen a bunch of positive build reports on this circuit yet... anyone else had success besides Marty and Pete?

How many positive reports do you want to see?  Do you think we would post something that doesn't work?

I shouldn't let this kind of crap bother me, but you've caught me on a bad day.

Yes, we are screwing you.  This circuit is a piece of sh*t and will not work.  Don't bother building it or any other circuits for that matter.  Go get a broom handle with a nail in it and walk the sides of the road picking up cans.  That's what I'll be doing, since I can't give you a freebie that will put itself together for you.  Hell, just wait around a few weeks.  You'll be able to buy this design in a manufactured pedal for around 200 bills.  Ain't I right, W?

I can't understand how someone can deviate from the schematic, then cry and bitch about how they got screwed by a bad design.  I'm sick of seeing people bitch about free stuff that we spent countless hours working on.  Do you think we get paid for that?  I'd rather spend time with my family and I will now.  The other guys at runoffgroove don't have as short a fuse as I do.  I've had enough.  This was one of the reasons why I dropped off the radar for a couple of years in regards to pedals.

Let me help you out:
-Do you want me to mail you a dozen or so clips of the prototype in action?
-Did you measure your frickin' FETs?
-Do you want me to give you the exact measurements of the FETs I personally set the circuit up with?
-Do you want me to mail you those exact FETs?
-Hell, do you want me to mail you the prototype?
-For that matter, I'll ship you my brain, guitar, cables, amp and cabinet, too.

I am truly sorry I came up with the idea of updating the Thunderchief.  I am truly sorry I decided to get back into developing circuits for whiny babies like you.  With folks like you, it's always someone else's fault.  YOU couldn't have f*cked up, could YOU?  The 'groove team worked hours, days, weeks on this design and all you can do is cry like a little b*tch because you can't get it to work.  Send me your mail address, I'll send you the prototype.  You can stick it firmly up your ass.

I'm done with this crap.  You've seen the last pedal I will work on.  Who's sh*t will you cry about now?

I want to be clear I am not speaking on behalf of runoffgroove.  I am speaking on my own here.  I do not want any fallout form this to hit the guys at runoffgroove.  This is just Gary speaking.

I want to say thanks to everyone that built anything I worked on in the past.  I want to say thanks to everyone that gave me props.

I apologize to the others at runoffgroove for doing this.  I've had enough of this crap and cannot be professional about this subject anymore.  I'll be in touch personally to discuss this.  I'm very sorry, but this needs to be done.

Sorry for the typos/bad grammar, etc.  I'm very angry right now.

OK, crybabies!  You've got one less designer to bitch about now.  Sooner or later, you'll have to bitch about yourselves.

Peace out,
Gary

DUDE. with all due respect...it's just a freaking distortion circuit. Don't let it get to ya like that!
Here's what I do when this happens.
1-open refridge door.
2-reach in, grab beer.
3-sit on couch, consume beer, play xbox with my son
4-problem solved.

Take care,

Even though I share your sincere advice, I don't see the point in stirring a situation that's already overcome and has been dormant for over 40 days...  A PM would've been more appropriate.
