Hey guys,  I recently cannibalized a slew of parts from an ancient sony Reel-to-reel. I ended up with a lot of old transistors as well,  but one in particular caught my eye, its a Germanium PNP in a CAN package. I wanted to know if someone could recommend a simple fuzz/overdrive/distortion type circuit that I could test this thing out in. I also got some silicon NPN's and old germanium diodes (voltage drop was around 412 for the diodes)

thanks for your time

What model transistor?  Did you measure the leakage and gain?

no measurements on the transistor yet,  I can't seem to find a datasheet on it. its a Sony B383.. actually, Ill just test it right now.. I don't know the pinout,  so I just randomly oriented it in the multimeter until I got a number that looked 'right'...  118  hFE

If the leakage is low, that might make for a cool treble booster.  I just built one last night and love it.

I'm just assuming the best thing to do with this, is to use it in some kind of  fuzz/distortion circuit.  This is because the only time I read about germanium transistors/diodes anymore, is in fuzz-type circuits. perhaps these germ. transistors have a better application ? or maybe its completely generic and useless... I've no idea

Most fuzz units require multiple transistors.  Treble boosters or clean boosts or whatever use 1 transistor a lot.

yeah, you're right... I was eyeing a PNP fuzzface, but I'd require another one of these. can you recommend a PNP booster ?

The creampie looks like a simple build, is there a PNP version perhaps ? I searched, but only came up with a PNP (as in Press-n-Peel), so wrong acronym
