Hello,
Few days ago I finished my second tube amp, famous tweed princeton. Of course, I added some mods:
-3 position toggle switch to bypass tone stack and switch bright cap
-solid state rectifier
-line out for direct recording
-NFB switch for negative feedback loop
-switchable 1uF and 25uF caps on first stage
-added one more power filter stage

Speaker is Weber ceramic signature 8". I used transformers from old radio, but all other parts are brand new and high quality: orange drop, mallory and silver mica capacitors, JJ/Tesla preamp tube and soviet Reflektor output tube.

I really like tone of this thing. It's the first time my squier strat sounds decent. And it's very loud, nobody can't believe it's only about 5.5W. It's very clean below 50% gain, but I have dual 12AX7 preamp/overdrive I built before that's gonna provide some distortion.

I'll post some clips soon.

Cheers

Nice  :)
did you build the cabinet yourself?

bancika

yes, it's made of 1cm thick plywood and covered with black tolex. I painted inside with black paint.

Nice.  What was your first amp build?  Amp building is fun.  How long did it take you?

bancika

first one was AX84 Firefly.
Yeah, it's real fun. It took more than a month, but mostly because I work on it only on weekends
Cheers

Nice work.  Very clean build.  Nothing like good old class A.  I've had one of these fora little over 30 years, and its one of the purchases I've regretted least in my life.  Three tubes.  Five watts.  Eight inches.  Your cabinet looks a bit narrower but noticeably deeper than the original.  It's also a little more closed in the back than the original.  I gather the various changes to the cab (including the thicker wood) give you a much beefier low end than the original.  Makes 5 watts go a long way.

bancika

cab is 40x35x25cm.
These 5 watts are much louder than I need, really. I don't gig, so for home it's plenty of power. Can't wait to try it with my (much) better guitar and tube preamp... :icon_razz:
