Can anyone help me?

Hey I am currently trying to make the boss OD 3 as a project for college.  The problem is my tutor is sure that it wont work. I am using the j. luja schematic.  The problem lies at the diode connected to q9 and the diode connected to q4.  These 2 diodes seem to make little sense.  The transistor wont turn on without any voltage.
is there something missing that i need, I or my tutor is baffled by this.
Is there anyone that can help?

The problem is that we can't see what you are talking about...literally see it...
If you could post the schenatic or at least the section of where you are having trouble, that would help.

Referring to this I assume:

Taking a quick look at this.... My guess is that the OD3 schematic is incomplete. These are simple switches Q9 and Q4. Look at how the OD2 is hooked up

Don't sweat it though - no one really likes doing switching in that way as it leads to "tone-sucking..."

So, I think you'll be fine if you bypass these FETs  (delete them and wire from s-d) and use 'true-bypass' on the input/output with a 3pdt.
