Following up on the Boss+Fender thread I noticed a link regarding new Behringer products.  Gohere - http://www.behringer.com/02_products/group_index.cfm?mid=2&ID=600&lang=ENG#STOMP%20BOXES - and get a load of what they are debuting at NAMM 2007.

They have basically gone through almost the entire Boss, MXR and E-H catalog.  There's a Memory Man clone, a Baseballs clone, a DM-2 clone, a VB-2 clone, a Slow Gear clone, a DF-2 clone, a DC-2 (Dimension C) clone, even a clone of the Boss Spectrum.  I'm not saying for one moment that the clones are complete replacements for the originals but for anyone who ever desperately wanted a VB-2 but couldn't justify the several hundred dollar outlay for something they'd only use once in a while.....

a DC-2 (Dimension C) clone

They have my interest on this one. With DC2s selling for the  GDP of a small African nation, I will at least try it.

And then there is the 12 position ABS pedal board with power supply:

You must give them credit for filling in their working days.  But it is an interesting combination of pedals on their photo.

Hi
I don't know about the situation in the US, but here in Oz there are a couple of the cheapo brands that offer the same circuits as Boss and Behringer, but they have metal enclosures, use good quality sockets, etc.  ie comparable to Boss in terms of a nuke-proof build.
E.g. a Daphon flanger  - cost US$22, digital delay - costs US $30.
It will be great if these brands follow Behringer into the more exotic pedals.

Dont forget the old saying "you get what you pay for"
I have 2 Behringer pedals. One is an accoustic simulator and the
other is a digital delay. The accoustic pedal is pretty good, decent sound etc.
The delay is crap. Good sound and stuff but after about 10 minutes it locks up or something.
All you get is a "heartbeat" sound and nothing more, its neither on or bypassed.
Ok enough of  my rant.  :icon_biggrin:

But you day one pedal is good, so "you get what you pay for" does not apply, no?  ;D Am joking.

I read the reviews on harmony central, but take them with a bag of salt.  :icon_eek: Some Behringer stuff is "dissed", and deserves it. But some gets good ratings. One of their overdrive pedals (TO800) has a 4558 chip (does not say which one...) and MA150 diodes in it. I tried one. I would not record with it, but I would play a bar with it. (I have a four level mark system: 1. home; 2. gig; 3. tour; 4 record- to what would I use it for?)

I looked inside and is mostly surface mount, so it would be hard to mod. The complaint I hear with Behringer pedals is not the plastic case but plastic pots and connections go loose.

Their equaliser is much quieter than my Boss, so I buy the Behringer. When I am on stage, no one looks at my pedal board.  :icon_redface: The rest of my band now uses the Behringer EQ as well.

Maybe if I took a Behringer and put it in a blank case with metal pots would people say it is good?  ??? ???

This is bullshit...the ripoff is so apparent.

I guess EHX and Boss and MXR (Dunlop) can't do crap about it eh?

you know something? Behringer go out of their way to develop and invent new products that you ass**** cant appreciate, and i think its time you show some respect for a company that is filled with so many ideas, if you knew how many pedal designs theyve invented, your minds would blow up!

I have spent some time with the existing Behringer Boss-copies, and they range from very good to not good.

So, as always, listen before you buy.

I wont hide the fact that I will buy some of these pedals.  I really want to get the VB-2 and DM-2 clones to mess around with.  Definately want to tinker with the dm-2 clone.  Too bad the Arion analog delay just jumped 20 bucks in the past few months.  Hopefully this one will be cheaper if not around the same price.  I would like to get the Memory Man clone but I dunno too bulky.  I slap myself several times a day for not buying a Memory Man before the price hike.  I digress...

Ive never used a Behringer pedal.  How is the build quality?  Ive been thinking about picking up an EQ700 for a while.

I must say I'm somewhat tempted...but somehow I couldn't morally do it.

They even copied the enclosure styles.

I hope they get sued.

I noticed an Ultra Flanger.  Not the John Hollis design.  Right? :-\

How much sympathy can we be expected to give to Boss and company when their products get copied?

I can't feel sorry for western companies whose wealth has been built on exploitation.  Not many years ago, western companies exploited Chinese labour and resources with abandon, and to some degree this exploitation continues today.  Is Boss paying its Taiwanese workers a western wage?  Do pigs fly?  If Behringer is copying Boss pedals, it isn't right, and two wrongs don't make a right, but it kind of restores balance to the universe. :icon_wink:
