This has probably been asked a million times before but the search facility wasnt working when I tried it...

How do I know I've got my 3pdt switch the right way up? I have heard the pins have to be running horizontally, but then I could have it upside down?

Which two pins do the actual switching? I could DMM it then to find the ones that do, which would give me the orientation?

Mind you, on my diagram, I dont really know which two wires going to the switch do the switching :S if that makes any sense at all!

HELP!

I dont get it...

I looked at the wiki and the link you gave me, and they didnt really help...

I am making a lofomofo and I am using the project file from GGG, I am wiring the switch exactly as the picture shows it. My lugs are horizontal, but I dont know if its upside down or not.

For example, I could solder a wire to what I think is lug one, but if I turned the switch thru 180 degrees then lug one looks like lug nine. is there a way of telling which is which?

I'm really confused...

I have come to the conlusion that it doesnt matter if it is upside down or not, as long as I got the horizontal bit right.

After reading how the switch works, its just like having three spdt switches in a line?

Since it would still work the same way, and I think I can figure it out with my DMM. I could do this by putting my meter on lugs one and two (depending how you number them) and seeing if I get anything, if not press the switch, if I still get nothing, then i need to turn the switch thru 90 degrees, am I right?

yep, its just like having 3 regular spdt switches in a row.
A B C
D E F
G H I

D will always be connected to G or A, E will always be connected to B or H ect.. it doesnt matter if you put it in like that or upside down like

I H G
F E D
C B A

its still the same connections

If the tabs are going  --  --  --, and the throw is up and down, then you'll get meter continuity between center lug and down lug when switch is up...cont. between center and up when the switch is down...it acts in a diagonal manner.  The 3PDT is just 3 of these switches in a row.  Hope that makes sense, LOL!!  I just look at the thing with the blades going Left/Right, and I know I am holding it right...
