hey guys

everyone seems to sell 3pdt switches with plastic washers.

does anyone know where to buy metal washers that fit similar in thickness to the ones that come standard on alpha pots?

ive been to a few electrical stores and they all sell really thick washers of the dimensions needed for the standard 3pdt switch, but not thin ones like on the alpha pots.

anyone know of a store online or a store here is aus that sells them?

I had a thin one I found in a junk drawer (about the thickness of those little alpha pot washers) . I put it on a pedal and after a while it got kind of banged up. I replaced it with the thicker kind that can be found at a hardware store. The ones at the hardware store are about as thick as the white plastic versions. Before I put it on I thought it was going to look ugly to my surprise I got a lot of complements with that pedal, it sort of looked like an industrial machine box of some type (pretty cool  :icon_cool:).

I'm curious as to why the nylon washers are included with stompswitches - it's the only thing I purchase that regularly has these - is it just to protect the finish of the top surface where the nut is screwed down, or is there another reason these are included and not a metal washer?

Unless you mean austria, I would recommend you go to Bunnings and visit their washer section.

Last time i went into jaycar i pretended to value the sales guys knowledge and he gave me a whole bag of washers and nuts to fit on the alpha pots so you might wanna try there,

I went through this a few years ago as well. the best I could do was a stainless washer at my local (old style) bolt and nut shop, but the diameter was about .020 too small. and the SS was a Bitch to enlarge!

Yeah they are a weird size, ~.46" in diameter, just enough that a 1/2" is sloppy.  I thought small bear started stocking a stainless steel washer that fits, after some nylon washer backlash, but now I can't find it on the page?  Did I just imagine that?

I tried some black nylon washers at the harware store but none of them were the right size, either too small or too loose...

Would 12mm work then?
Yep would go close.
0.46" = 11.684mm.

+1 for trying a specialist nut & bolt shop or Blackwoods, Coventry Fasteners or even Super(crap & not so)Cheap Auto etc.

i didnt try car parts stores :) that sump washer may work, looks like a rough finish though

i did try coverntry fasteners - the guy was rude when asked if he was sure that he didnt have what i was looking for - he said in a nasty tone "if we had what you were asking for i would have gotten it from out the back wouldnt i".. maybe ill have to go back there and hope for a more competant sales assiatant.
