hey guys.  i want to build the atari punk console, and i just want to make sure that the dragonfly's layout in the gallery (thank df!) is the current one.

are there any changes that need to be made?

i will wire a volume to the end, and use a stereo output jack to disconnect the battery when unplugged.

last thoughts?

I used "choklitlove"/matthew helm's layout (PCB) in the gallery. Works like a charm... An early 80's video game charm to be exact.

yeah, i hear it rocks.

i don't like fooling with the chemicals of the pcb stuff, so i usually do vero stuff.

as far as i know, it doesn't get any more recent than dragonfly's.  there are a million mods.  everyone sort of puts their own style into it.  most popular mod is probably replacing the pots with ldrs.  i agree with adding the volume pot.  this thing can get pretty loud.  if you need help with that, my layout has it mapped out.

thanks chok.  i'll peep it.  i was thinking that i could just take the output and run into lug 3 of a 250k pot, then back out of lug two to the jack?  lug three goes to ground?

if i remember correctly, i read that somewhere.

i was thinking about nestling this next to a jawari or something?  ever use them together?

correct, except you mean lug 1 goes to ground.  about the jawari, you do know that this is just a noisemaker, right?  it doesn't have an input, it creates sound by itself.  if you meant running the sound it creates into the jawari, i apologize and no, i haven't tried it.

ooops- yeah, i meant leg 1.

yes, i know it is a noise maker w/o input.

i used to have the most excellent  "drum exiter" from kmd of all people.  i was a simmons drums brain type of deal that fit in a small metal enclosure designed to be clipped to the rim of a drum..

it's internal piezo element took the place of a drum pad.
i would just hold it in my hand a smack it.

awesome lfo's, etc.

i would eventually like to build a large box with this at the front, followed by a few other noisy faves.  maybe a phase and a delay at the end.

what do you think about adding a "kill switch" in the form of an arcade button?  you could just use it to break PS ground when depressed.

I am currently experimenting with one of these, I am using choklit's layout, but I am creating my own stripboard layout for it, to help me better understand the layout and to prevent me from being lynched for selling something with someone else's layout in it. I will breadboard it first to hunt out some nice mods.

I also wanted to run it through a jewari! AND I also planned to house about three of these in one enclosure with a load of other effects like a couple of distortion, delay, chorus, tremolo, phase effects, and have them all accessable via a patchbay, kind of like a simplified version of a modular synth. My only concerns would be for creating a power supply. I imagine another board could be made to split a DC supply voltage into a number of other smaller voltages to power all the 9v "modules".

Hope it goes ok.

Several people have built it using the layout in my folder. The only thing I'd advise is using a stereo jack for the output, so you can defeat the battery when youre not using it.

that's funny!  that is exactly what i am doing, right down to the patchbay!

great minds think alike!  wow, that must make you really smart and cool.   ;D

Actually, I am really dumb and my designs so far are very half assed, which is down to my lack of electronics knowledge. The main stumbling block for me is the power supply, as I dont have enough knowledge to create one and I'd probably end up having to put a powerblock pedal supply in or something, unless someone could supply a definitive layout for like 10-25 9v power supplies. I've seen the things for the spyder but I'm no good with schem's and working out stuff with regards to variations or whatever. It'd be great if someone did an actual easy to follow build file (i.e. for a total noob who knows hardly anything about electronics)

So, yeah, good luck anyway! You might see one of my "synths" like this popping up for sale if I ever design one.

Indeed, great minds do think a like.

If all your circuits are +9V supply, you only need one 9V supply with sufficient current - 100 - 200 mA should be more than enough. Just wire all the grounds together and all the +9V points from the various circuits to the same point. There are minor exceptions and occasional modifications to this principle, but it should get you started okay.
