I built a clone here, and I am getting sound, and the controls work, but it never distorts. Anyone have any clues as to what to look for here? I used 2n3904a's for the trannies. The overall volume is quite low, too.

Analog stuff is funny, multiple things can be terribly wrong and something can still come out the other end, might be good to post your voltages like is in the "what to do when it doesn't work" thing at the top of the main page, as well as the layout/board if you're using someone elses and schematic.

You can check that you have the transistors in right.  Looking at the top of the 3904s, and orienting it so the flat side is facing right, the pins go from top to bottom, Collector, Base, Emitter.

Here's a pic of what's happening here:

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Looks like I had a wrong input cap. I fiddled with the values a bit, and cleaned up some solder traces, and it's working great. Using film caps instead of ceramics seems to have brightened it up a bit from the original, too. The new owner really likes that part!
