I haven't played either one (both commercial versions), but the BSIAB II I used to have completely kicked my DIY (GGG) Guv'nor's ass. The problem I have with the Guv'nor (and Guv'nor 2/Plus) is that it doesn't get good low-drive sounds. There is a threshold where the (LED) clipping starts and it is very noticeable when playing soft; i.e. it's like there's a point where it goes from clean (yet warm) to fizzy breakup, not unlike the nasally sounds of a misbiased transistor. That being said, there is a bit of range that goes from Classic Marshall to Hotter Marshall at  the end of the gain dial.

But, people are loving the B.O.R., so I'd listen to them both if possible.
