Reboxing. What pots? What switch (No True-bypass)?

Hi,

I have an old rocktek chorus I want to rebox as the case is split.

I am going to just pull out the pcb, throw out the case, replace the pots, and add a stomp switch (I'm NOT going to true-bypass it).

How do I know what pots to use? Can I measure them with my DMM? It has three pots, depth, tone and rate. What taper should I use?

The switch is obviously a tactile one, but what kind? Will it me a momentary? In which case can I just pull the tactile one out and solder in a momentary spdt stomp switch?

Thanks

bravo for skipping the true bypass, it uses a momentary switch for sure, almost all the pedals with electronic switching do because they are cheap and reliable.  You probably don't even need to pull the switch, just solder wires to your new rugged SPDT momentary stompswitch to the two poles on the tact switch.

The pots probably have the value and taper written on them.  Like A100K for 100K, audio taper.

Cool thanks!

Yeah, the pedal sounds ok in bypass mode as it is, and I dont want to complicate matters, it's really not worth it. I use a noise gate anyway, which removes more tone than any pedal ever could do! haha

i have some cool rocktek chorus mods if your interested, vibe mod, speed mod, tremolo mod, and a wierd 'sci-fi' mod that changes the ramp shape of the oscillator... let me know if your interested...

They sound cool...

I think we could all benefit from a few more mods!

ok sci fi mod...
all you need a spst switch and  2 wire leads to turn it on and off ...
connect the wire leads to the switch.. 1 wire each lead...
connect one side of the switch to leg 1 of ic 3 (if the divit is up,itll be the first leg to the divits left) looking at the top of the ic.
connect the other wire of the switch to r33(in between depth pot, and speed pot)connect it to the top of the resistor<its lead side>, its a standing resistor so i mean connect the wire to its top(...       Q_l____/<---new wire      ...) as if looking down at the resistor, should be that the lead of the standing resistor is on the depth pot side.
and thats it!!!! flip it on and tell robalard and the venutians i said hello while they scoff at your "earth fruit" even though its yummy and not bad!

*vibrato mod= need one spst with 2 wire leads..
cut the top of r22 (standing resistor near the effects on off button)
connect one wire of the switch to the resistor side.
and the other wire to the cut lead side.(such that turning the switch 'on' opens the connection and lets no signal through r22)
it basically turns off the unaffected signal and gives you just the vibrato side...
*tremolo mod (this is an on-off-on-off type trem)(this works in conjunction with the vibe mod if you want full on off sound, without the vibe mod it basically just turns the pedal on and off for cleen-chorus-cleen-chorus....which is cool and underwatery too, but not full trem..
need one spst switch with 2 wire leads...
connect one wire to the top of r36(standing resistor)
connect the other to pin 1 of ic3(same place as sci fi mod)or if you've done the sci fi mod you can also connect right to the sci fi switch terminal that is already going to ic3 pin 1...rather than have to squeeze another wire onto pin 1 ic3...and thats it!
*oh yeah... i also changed the value of c30(delay time cap)to 47p(.0047 uf)for more liquid tone...
* last but not least,SPEED MOD!!! (gets into ring mod territory)
once again you need a spst switch with 2 wires...
but this time you also need a 100k (brown black yellow) resistor.
connect one wire to one side of  r41 (either side)
then connect the 100k to the end of the unconnected switch wire, now connect the other end of the 100k to the other side of r41.
such that when the switch is on there is now a 100k resistor in parallel with r41...
have fun and do em all with 4 spst switches and some stereo speaker wire...
i reboxed mine and call it....
get ready.....

"THE WARP CHORUS"
if you do the mods, they will come.

btw , these aren't all MY mods, most of em(cap change, vibrato mod, speed mod) came from digging around here and finding chorus mods (mostly pertaining to the boss ce-1 + ce-2 chorus pedal- which this rocktek pedal closely resembles, circuit wise)
So much thanks to the people here who helped me to understand what does what in these circuits...and also much thanks for the chorus mods based on the boss chorus that a few diy ers spent time and energy on.
The sci-fi mod is a bit of circuit bending that i did, connecting this to that! and is really cool sounding so i'm proud of that!
hope you like the mods ! and you can always search around here for info on the boss ce-1 and ce-2 for more info on modding your rocktek!
