Mutron Bi-Phase, working but distorting very bad...

Hello, I need some help.  I just got a Mutron Bi-Phase which I was really excited about.  When it arrived, I found that Phaser A sounds nice but is lightly distorting (too much to be acceptable though).  Phaser B is unusable.  It is phasing but really distorted.  All the functions of the pedal seem to be fine (controls, footswitch after I repaired a short).  Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong before I send it back?  Is there any info on adjusting the multiple trim pots?

Hi, I fixed a mutron vol wah with a similar sounding distortion problem by replacing all the electrolytic caps and resoldering each joint.  That's worked on a few ancient dead effects I worked on.
