Hi

Could anyone suggest whether adding a switch and a pot across the effect send and return jacks to b.blender here:

http://seanm.ca/stomp/bblender.html

would still work as a feedback loop? or would the electronicky bits mess it up?

I'm thinking I would like the wet/dry blend effect because the ring mod I built is just too tuneless on its own I could use this ala Black Sabbath Paranoid (but not as good obviously). And also save time and space by having the feedback loop on flick switch and a momentary switch in there too, rather than the separate box its in right now. actually Im gonna draw it because its hurting my brain thinking about it all.

Thanks for help

If you just want to blend in the ring mod with dry signal, this should do the job just as it's presented, I'd think....You could build the circuit into the ring mod box, yes, and just have the whole thing true-bypassed, with the blend pot to set the mix.

There are a few ways to do what it seems like you're asking, some are simpler than the blender (like adding an input buffer to the ring mod, and tapping some of the input signal & blending it with output - if it's the same phase that should work, too).  Keep poking around and experimenting, you'll find something that fits your needs  ;)

Which ring modulator did you build?
Is there a ring level?
It helps to tune in the modulation frquency to the key of the song.
Usually the higher carrier fequencies are more musical and easier to play with.

Ring mod here: http://experimentalistsanonymous.com/diy/
The AD633 Ring mod with LFO, built on strip board.

I also built this one, again on stripboard: http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=62&Itemid=186

but its not a proper ring mod, is not as impressive, and is very quiet. Bit more tuneful though. I know ring mod not a tuneful effect all said and done, and I have played with tuning it to key I'm using, with some results but I thought the blender would make it much more versatile.

I want to build the blender anyway as a handy toy, I was just thinking I would like to bundle the feedback loop into it as well as I have one in a separate box already, adding a momentary action switch as well as a latch switch for that would be AMAZING! I reckon anyway.. It would also serve as a straight effects loop I assume. Brilliant.
The minimalist blender on that site would be perfect, I know a feedback loop would be possible to add on to that but he says imput and output impedances would not be guaranteed?! I don't even know what that means... Is there all that much difference?

I may try to rig it up if I can find a spare unburnt opamp kicking about, the ones I ordered should arrive tomorrow and I can get down to experimenting in earnest.

POO! there was something else I wanted to ask anyone who knows stuff about opamps!

Basically you see the gain mod here
http://seanm.ca/stomp/images/bblender-gain.gif

well can any of the op amp sides be used to do this? I.E If I put the resistor and pot to Vr(? i think its called) from the opamp before the SEND jack can I be adding a boost to the wet signal, or maybe would it be better to add this to the return jack opamp and boost the wet signal AFTER effects have been added??

Damn should have asked before but forgot, and all the stuff I need is here now. Bah I'm gonna try it anyway later on.

WELL

It seems to have worked perfectly, I first tried connecting the send and receive jacks with a switch + pot.. needless to say that didnt work, but I got feedback by connecting the switch to the overall output back to send. Not really played with it yet but it seems I have an effects loop with blend, a boost to the wet channel, variable switched feedback, and an overall volume control in one box. I'm very happy   :icon_mrgreen:

I suppose most people can figure this out for themselves, but if anyone is interested in this at all I could post up some pictures of what I did, stripboard and wiring layout etc...

Thanks again.

and thanks, sounds interesting...

Christ, that was a pain in the arse, I'm not doing that again. Sorry for the rough look but I'm a man of very little patience.
opamps were TL072CN. I actually ran 2 spst switches for feedback, One locking toggle, and one momentary footswitch. woo random bursts of delay feedback!

Using this has made me realise just how crappy my delay pedal is though, When the effect loop is on with the delay in there the overall tone gets really badly mashed. hmph suppose I should look out for a decent delay now. Might post pics later when my bint gets back with her camera phone.

Well I for one appreciate the effort!
