how the hell does anyone prupose you acheive this sort of tone without buying a symbol guitar and a 2000 grand mesa?

my thoughts were some sort of zvex machine introducing crossover distortion, and some kind of overdrive/fuzz in parralel before it, anyone got any better ideas?

sounds like pretty standard octave fuzz.
