i find it difficult to acuire mpsa13's in our location.
will two transistors at 100hfe connected in a darlington pair be a valid substitute?

somewhere around 10000hfe i guess.
Look at it this way- everyone rags on air guitar here because everyone can play guitar.  If we were on a lawn mower forum, air guitar would be okay and they would ridicule air mowing.

Meanderthal

300 to 900 hfe is more like the right neighborhood... Darlingtons might be overkill...

Dragonfly

other good possibilities...

2N5089
TIS97

You should be able to find one or all of those fairly easily.

who recommends MPSA13's in the BMP?

petemoore

Someone could elaborate, the ones that are socketted !
...or transistors of the HG/LN varieties, like 2n5088's/MPSA18's, goodstock.
There are a number of things controlling gain in the BMP, higher/lower gain transistors sound different in it.
BCxxx transistors have a..BCxxx sound, same for GE sounding GE like.
See "Yun's Big Muff mods" maybe you'll like a BMP using lower gain transistors with another boost stage...lol.
