I just had to share it!

WHAT A GREAT PEDAL!!!

Just like having a Marshall hidden inside my twin reverb...

It sounded great with just the guitar in, but when i plugged an OC44 range in front of it.... WOOOOW!

:icon_eek:  :icon_eek:  :icon_eek:

i just couldn't get that stupid smile off my face for hours....   :icon_biggrin:

So, here's how i HAD to name my Thor:

                   THANKS ROG ! ! !

soundclips!

I plan to record (somehow) soundclips of my pedals.

This might take some time since my recording capabilites are quite restricted, but i believe i will manage.

Something tells me i'll start from the Thor...   ;)

Glad to hear you are enjoying the project!
Two key design goals for this circuit were guitar volume cleanup and booster friendly operation. This is why the first stage is based on the revisited Fetzer Valve.
Just for curiosity, how do you set the BRIGHT and BOTTOM switches when pushing Thor with your R.M.?

First of all, my sincere congrats on the whole volume of your work!

we just love your projects!

Now, about the controls.

Truly, all settings had "something" to offer, but my initial thought was the one i played the most.

Bottom "on" and bright "off".

This gave me an amazingly full-bodied tone.
Sweet and fat highs while retaining the strong bottom.
With the Strat it was addictive, although a bit noisy @ 1,3,5 (i play close to the twin...)
With Humbuckers it was like .... can't really describe it!

I found myself "unpacking" riffs from the past, playing things i couldn't quite enjoy with the Fender amp.

just awesome!

After finishing, it is quite true that i couldn't wipe that silly smile off my face for hours...

can't wait to get back home (i'm @ work now / it's daytime in Greece now) to try it with my other pedals, or just repeat last night's "gig"...

Thanks again!

...and some gutpics (i already posted them yesterday in another thread, but...)  :icon_mrgreen:

tested it with a uni-vibe....

...... :icon_biggrin: ......

Another combination i tried was with a ROG eighteen into the Thor.

magnificent sound!

Then i plugged my wah in front of the 18 and i  ...raised a little sand... ;)

just couldn't be happier!...   :icon_biggrin:  :icon_biggrin:  :icon_biggrin:

Just out of curiosity,

in your Thor(s) is the "bright" more evident at lower gain settings? (let's say 0 to 50-60%)

I experienced the same! With HB it's nice, powerfull, warm and deep. With sc is a really nice, responsive tone.

It sounds great on my Vox AC30, but it didn't sound that great on a SS practice amp.

Yups, at high gain the subtleness of the high-switch is gone. No noticeable difference to my ears.

There is a really slight variation @ high gain, but it couldn't qualify as a "tonal change".

After playing with mine for a while, I ditched the bright switch and also the
bass "boost"
Just didn't need 'em sounded fantastic without !
I made the 33k at the "T" junction of 22n's a 10k and a 22k pot wired as a
variable resistor.
This gives me a nice treble roll off pot for use with a bright amp.
It's up full 90% of the time

That's a cool mod MM!

but i like mine the way it is, so no mods on that one.

maybe i'll build another sometime for mods/experiments...

Bucksears

Is there a way to incorporate a 3-band eq with this one?

I guess the guys @ ROG could answer that. ;)

But it's so great the way it is IMHO, so i wouldn't change anything!

FunkyGibbon

Hi,

I posted this question in a separate thread, but got no reply (boo hoo!).

I am planning a Dr Boogey build, and have been looking at the latest from ROG to improve the circuit. I've taken some tips from the updated Fetzer Valve article, and have also looked at the Thor project.

I thought I might add the EQ section from the Thor as an option (with and without the Dr Boogey tone stack). However, I'm not sure EXACTLY where the Thor EQ section starts and ends - i.e. what I would need to include to lift it from the Thor and place it in the Boogey!

My guess is just the 'stack-looking bit' from the op-amp down, but I just don't know. There may be another cap or two included...

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Christopher
