I've just finished the main board layout on stripboard. I'm about to make the clipboard layout and I feel like you have to bend the leads of the mosfets, am I right ? The leads seem relatively sturdy but can I bend them with confidence ?

Yep, the MOSFET should be gently bent over to clear the top of the enclosure. The IRF520 leads are at least twice the thickness of standard component leads, so they should be fine.

All right THX  ;)

I'm so excited,  I've just finished my FKR  ;D
I used stripboard for both the ckt board and the clipping board. I had a hard time to fit all in my 125BB box, and I ended up without adding a battery.
I was anxious when I switched it on, but it worked on the first try  :o. No need for debugging, which is amazing in my little DIY experience. It's such a mess inside my box, moreover I couldn't solder the toggle switches directly to the stripboard...
The batteries of my digicam are being charged, I'll post pics tomorrow.

There is one little work to be done, both volume and filter pots acts backwards. Same for the lube pot, the sound gets louder and brighter CCW.
See you tomorrow for pics and a short honeymoon review  :icon_twisted:
Cheers,
Fabrice

Yes, please post some pics of your build. I've been drooling over this design for a few days....and the videos for it on beavisaudo.

My pics are delayed, I'm having problems with my battery charger  >:(
I didn't have time to make an in depth test of the pedal, there is so much to fiddle, but the mosfet clipping & LED feedback clipping combo looks very promising as a blues overdrive  :icon_biggrin:

Nice project. Thanks Dano.
I think there might be one error on the layout. The 47n should go to ground ??

Yep, it should. I fixed the layout and posted the rev 1.12 PDF on my site. If you hav already etched a board, you can cut the small trace and add a jumper to ground to fix it. Thanks for the catch!

calculating_infinity

Wow dano!  Nice job on the PDF very thorough!  I like how you have everything board mounted.  I will have to try this one out soon.  Thanks!

ranchak

Hey Dano, did you get time to post the box template? Figures I just got finished etching a board and I see that there is a trace that I have to cut! Oh well it could be worse.

Hi Dan. Great job with your FKR!  :icon_cool:

However, i think I have found some mistakes:

In the schematic there's a R13, but in the parts list there's no R13.
Concerning R8 in the parts list, which is a 47ohm resistor, the color code seems to be wrong.

In the schematic there's a Feedback Clipping toggle switch. Where's that on the layout?
Also concerning the toggle switches:
In the schematic the switches are:
SW1 - DPDT On/Off/On
SW2 - SPDT On/Off/On
SW3 - SPDT On/On
SW4 - SPDT On/On
SW5 - SPDT On/On

But, on the layout the switches are:
SW1 - SPDT On/On
SW2 - SPDT On/Off/On
SW3 - SPDT On/On
SW4 - SPDT On/Off/On
SW5 - SPDT On/Off

What's wrong here? Hope you can help me.

Best Regards

André

The layout is what you should go by. I've been through so many revisions, keeping the schematic and parts list in sync is proving problematic.  R13 is the led current limiting resistor, should be 4.7k. For the switches, again ignore the schematic and go with PCB layout. Ground clip goes to ground clip and OD goes to OD clip.

Did the Rat Jump Bar just move up a notch or two, seems like it !
Be careful to step on your hybrid Rat !

At last, my FKR

I'll do more pics. The colors from the pic aren't that good.

One thingie: are there On/off SPDT toggle switches?
Because the layout says it does exist... Check out SW5 (Lube Mode).

Oh, and, dano12, can you post here a good pic of the FKR, of the front 'panel'? Because i'm working on my own 'panel' on Corel X3, but I do not know the functions and names of each 5 toggle switches there are.

Thanks in advance.

André

EDIT: Oh, and for you guys that have already made the pedal, in Adobe Acrobat, what's the correct zoom percentage for the both pcb?

warioblast

I used 2 SPDT on/off/on and 3 SPDT on/on

The Beavis philosophy is:

- learn as much as I can
- publish schematics (and layouts whenever possible) for everything I do
- never get behind on answering email questions (yeah right...)
- make enough selling stuff to buy parts for the next project
- be nice to everyone :)

I think it is a nice karma-balanced approach.

Just wanted to say: Your approach is awesome!  My first pedal will be up by the end of next week, and I fully plan to follow this karmic model : D
Built: Fuzz Face, Big Muff Pi (Stock), Distortion + (Germanium and Silicon versions)

Can you guys please tell me?

Samugo

Hey Dano

i finished this pedal two weeks ago,but don't work very well,so i have a question:

-Can you tell me if pots are lin or log? because i'm from italy and in europe A=lin and B=log, is it true? if you can write es. : drive = 100k lin (or log)
                                                                                                                                                                                   lube = 1k ...

Thank you

newbie builder

A is log for America and B is Linear in america (C is reverse log)
