why does this power amp NOT have an output transformer? because it's solid state?

Solid state not necesarily means no output transformer...

output transformers adapt a very high impedance to a low impedance device....

Output tubes have high output impedance (around 5k Ohms) and speakers have 8 Ohms impedance, so, you need to step-down that impedance to avoid making your speaker explode!!(or your tubes, i don´t know, but something will blow ugly)

SS output transistors often have lower output impedance, at the same level of a speaker.. so, you really  don´t need any output tranny....

Tubes are overrated!!
