Hi,
I can't find Brett's modified Bosstone schematic.
Can somebody email me the schemo ?
Thx in advance.
Cheers,

Hi
If I recall, there were 3 main changes to the Bosstone.
1.  To reduce the gain produced by modern transistors, I added a resistor to the emitter of Q1.  I used 220 ohms, but 47 (high gain) to 220 (low gain) ohms would be a good range.
2.  I also used 3 diodes instead of 2, for some extra harmonic richness.  I used 3 x 1N4148s.
3.  I added a filter betweent the diodes and the volume pot to remove excess highs.  A fixed filter could use a 10k in-line resistor followed by a 2n2 or 3n3 cap to ground (the 3n3 will erode more highs).  For a variable filter, you could use a 100k log pot and 3n3 cap (as used in the Rat).

I never tried it, but the combination of high gain (e.g. no emitter resistor) and heavy filtering (e.g. 10k resistor and 4n7 cap) might be good.  It works very well in another circuit I use (the Hidrosis).
cheers

I added the Hidrosis to my list. I am a fan of the Black Keys too  :icon_mrgreen:
