Hi,

I just finished building the Bassman Fetzer... I have replaced the two .1uf caps with .22uf (I only had those available) and I am wondering if it works correctly.  The tone coming out of it is AWESOME! but it can't go louder than unity level.  Is it normal ?

I also modded R6 with a 10k pot as suggested in a thread for bass control.

Is there a way to get more ouput from this wonderful little circuit?

Would there be a way to push that J201 further into mild overdrive without having to put a boost in front of it ?

Thanks for any help you may provide,

Matt

Do not remember the schematic but if it sounds awesome... why change it?  ;D

Try another fet, with same Vgsoff but more gain. Maybe a 2sk117?

Try reducing the bypass resistor dowm to 820r or 680r and rebias, it may get a bit
"farty" sounding though - a common jfet problem !
Or replace it with a 4k7 pot wired as a variable resistor.

the bypass resistor will change what ?? the ouput or the amount of grit in the circuit ??

Is it normal that the output can't go louder than unity gain??

would it be possible to add a clipping diode in that circuit just to get a little grit from the J201?

You should be able to get a good bit of boost. I wired one up and had a missed connection and got the same thing you have at unity.
If you have a breadboard that would enable you to try some things out to see how you like them.
Try a few different fets or the same number, sometimes you get a bum one that will work but not have the oomph!

Clipping diods will give you more grit but will lower tio volume of the output. You will need a good amount of boost to drive the diodes and still have decent output level.
