Transistor polarity -newbie

hey

i have some 2n2712 work alike transistors have two flat sides, no rounded sides, and i can't figure out the polarity of them. One side has the name on it "2N2712" but otherwise there are no markings.
can anyone help?

I actually did find that chart but im just not positive if i should treat the side with writting as if it was the flat side or what?
