Just wondering if it is as complex as it seems. something like a big muff or overdrive pedal converted to bass?
the question would be what is the underlying difference in the circuit designs.. I am use to reading and elucidating guitar circuits and have no clue where to begin for bass.

Thanks,

hey buddy. most designs like that would work great, all you might want to do is change the input cap (0.027uf on a tubescreamer) to a larger size.  I made a TS for our bass player, and changed that cap to .1uf.  sounds fantastic.

if you're doing a ts, think about doing the flat mids mod as well, so you can switch back and forth!

This has been discussed many times before - you'll find lots of good info if you SEARCH. (That's a label, BTW, not shouting.)

Pretty much any guitar effect that does not kill the lows(Such as a BMP) will work fine as is. Those that don't can usually be converted by raising the values of the decoupling caps in the audio path, such as the TS mod mentioned by jlullo(Did that to my TS, really did the trick). Sometimes there are voicing mods beyond that, like the flat mids mod jlullo also mentioned(Didn't do that to mine... yet). Some(like a rangemaster or other treble booster) just don't make sense to try modding for bass, although I've heard of that too.

Really, there's not much more to it. Ya just allow the lows to get thru, and tweak to taste(voicing caps).
I am not responsible for your imagination.
