Hey guys,

Im buildng a couple of BYOC kits and when they ask for say, a .01 film cap....which SmallBear product would this be? I did order all of the caps using Panasonic Low Voltage Film Caps. However these are the burgundy colored ones that seem to be a little smaller and a slight stretch to get on the board compared to the green ones BYOC supplies. Is there a difference? On the type numbers like (473K) or (503K) that is printed on the green ones, these say 473J or 503J etc.

Also, I am looking for a 100pf ceramic and 51p cap. Can someone help me out with these on smallbear?

The values of film caps i need are : .047uf, .01uf, .001uf, .05uf(which i cant find?), .22uf, .47uf, .68uf

I found out the different in Axial and Radials the hard way. Btw... should I bother ordering Radials or just bend the lead back down the body of the cap and into the board? I know it looks sloppy but other than that, will it matter?

Thanks guys!!! Gotta learn it all somehow!

Functionally, no. There are some who way the brownies sound better than greenies, but for most folks it doesn't matter.

The numeric part is the code for the value. The letter is either a tolerance or manufacturers code. Get the right value--that's the key part. If you haven't already, got to http://www.electronics2000.co.uk/ and download the free application--it does calculator and resistor codes, unit conversions, etc. I find it invaluable.

Small Bear has them both. 100pf you can get in poly film:

for the 51pf, move down to ceramic or silver mica:

.047 should be fine for the .05.

You and me both dude. I constantly order axials by mistake :) There is no difference in the parts other than the lead configuration. Go ahead and bend one leg over and it will work fine.

Wow, thanks so much!! Thats a great help. Also, you make so sweet stuff and your website is great!! I am using ALL of your mods on my Fuzz clone using your diagram, very helpful!

While your around, do i have to use a solid core copper wire to go from the board to switches when switching between the two types of transistors, or can i use normal hookup wire?

THANKS!

My pleasure. Solid core wire is not a good choice because after you bend it enough it will break off. Stranded is fine for pretty much ideal for anything you'd do in a stompbox. I'd highly recommend SmallBear's #24 pre-bond. It is super easy to work with and doesn't require tinning. Lots of colors available too. Good luck!

I'll argue that point... in another thread where it isn't way off-topic. :icon_lol:
