A good while ago, I popped an under saddle piezo into my old Yamaha classical. Output goes straight into the amp and sounds brilliant. Until that is, the wires break. Problem is that the wires are just too long inside, move around and finally give way. Also, I hate the noise of them flapping against the sides so I plan to shorten them.
That's the easy bit but there will always have to be some slack created when the jack is re inserted so I'd like to tape the last bit to the sides. Question is, just how would I do that? My arms are too big to fit through the sound hole and I struggle enough to get that darned nut back on the jack

Most pickups come with two or three wire clips.  You don't need to get them in super deep, just enough to hold the wires in place.

This PU was salvaged from an old broken Giannini. Will search for clips. Ta

A couple partcasters I put together. The first is really nice to play. Light, thin body. Took a bit of work fitting the electronics. It's very open and bright.

The second is nicer looking, walnut over pine. It's a bit dull sounding. Open high strings don't ring so well. But I'm glad to have it.

They both look nice to me. I've got a dull, pretty tele. Crank the gain right up and it's the go to guitar....

Gah, you can't keep doing this to me! :-[ I've never been a fan of the Tele sound, but I LOVE the Tele look and occasionally catch myself looking at parts to put one together...

Really great looking builds though, for reals 8)

Very nice Ts.  Someone needs to shame me relentlessly into building my Frankentele.  I've only had all the parts sitting ready and waiting for about ten years.   :icon_rolleyes:

I have another telebody made from cedar. Working on it's clear coat. ALso two strats about ready to put together.

Telecaster are the easiest builds I think. There are lots of cheap bodies sold on Ebay. Many building from random junk wood. Around $50-$100. Hardware and neck is where you have to spend some money. $100 for the neck, $100 minimum for average pickups. And another $150 for decent hardware, electronics and tuners. Not to mention finishing supplies. This is using a seller like Stewmac who are great but expensive. Often much more money than say a Squire or something. And you have to know what you're doing.

Both those guitars required me to cut some body to fit things. The top one in a thin body so I had to dremel out enough wood to fit the tele switch. And work the jack route some. I also cut out to fit the neck pickup.

The bottom walnut over pine one seemed to have been cut to fit a strat neck. More curved pocket. I had a tele neck so I went ahead and used a dremel to fit it best I could. First time doing such things. Glad it worked out.

Easily as addicting as pedal building which I havn't done so in a long time.

Only another 10 to wait before you can build a genuine vintage guitar :)
Just imagine how you'll feel if you finally put it together and it sounds fantastic. All that time wasted not being able to play it....

The way I'm organised, it'll be a bloody antique by the time I build it.   ;D

Anyway, nice start, Kevin - thanks.  Keep going.  The shame is building up!

I think you want 250K-A in all 3 slots... MC
I used to really be with it!  That is, until they changed what "it" is.  Now, I can't find it.  And, I'm scared!  --  Homer Simpson's dad

Fender3D

Stock stratocasters equipped with single coils use 250K log.
You may use 500K for a brighter tone or if mounting a humbucker.

Long story short:
the higher the pot's resistance, the brighter the tone.

deadastronaut

cheers federico, yeah im going with HSS  (middle s will be a dummy.)  2 way switch.

so 550k for hummer

250k for the bridge...

cheers .

Hang on, "progress"...  Lemme grab a dictionary...    :icon_twisted:

OK, so the shame is definitely progressing!  Not sure about the build just yet...  :icon_rolleyes:

Keep going, Kev.  You're doing a fine job!  If the nag-line wasn't "build the freakin' guitar, already!", we could be married!   ;D
