I just got this on Tuesday. A Seagull Entourage Rustic CW QIT

So far, I love this guitar. It's warm and rich, but with just enough treble snap. It has a cedar top so it's less trebley than most acoustic guitars, but it still sounds great. It's beautiful too, the picture doesn't really do it justice. It only cost $470, and it easily beat out all of the guitars I could find in the same price range.

Skruffyhound

Good score. Let me know if you ever put any sound clips up anywhere, I'd love to get an idea what it sounds like.

CynicalMan

I'll put up a sound clip as soon as I find the little adapted that plugs into my computer. ::) Elusive little thing.

I should point out that there seem to be two versions of this guitar. The other version has a black pickguard, a darker finish, and an ugly glued-on plastic rosette (mine is wood). You can see it here, although it doesn't show how cheesy the rosette looks in person:
http://static.music123.com/derivates/19/001/412/153/DV020_Jpg_Jumbo_583547.096_rustic_V.jpg
Otherwise the two seem to be identical. I think the plastic rosette version is newer, but I'm not sure. It's the one Seagull has up on its rather uninformative website.

Also, I emailed Seagull, and they said that this guitar is identical to the S6 Slim QI except for the cutaway and the finish. Still, this guitar is around $30 cheaper. Go figure.

The pickup isn't brilliant, so this sounds electric-ey and rattly rather than warm and snappy. Still, if you don't mind it having the wrong adjectives, this should give you an idea of the guitar. In the clip, I use a pick up until 0:25, then I fingerpick from there.

Thanks for the clip, nice to get some idea what it sounds like. I don't know what your setup is at home, but sticking a mic or two on it would give a better approximation, or perhaps a mic/ piezo combo, I just tape piezo's directly to the front of my acoustics and mic the soundhole from slightly below the strings pointing up. I can imagine how nice that guitar sounds but can't exactly hear it from the sound clip because it's getting filtered through the pickup.
Many thanks for the response and congrats on a fine guitar.

Edit: In fairness I'm also listening to the clip on my work computer through the most trashed cheap headphones in the world, I'll have another listen when I get home.

CynicalMan

I don't have a decent mic so I can only show the pickup, which really isn't that good. Still, if you want to get an idea of the sound, go to a music shop and try out any of the Seagull, Simon & Patrick, or Art & Lutherie cedar top acoustics. They're all made by Godin, and although Seagull is the high-end line, they're pretty similar.

I don't have a picture of mine at the moment, but I picked up a Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin II last week and couldn't be happier:

Coincidentally, Godin is the parent company of Seagull...great Canadian guitars!

Hooray for Canada!  My first 'real' acoustic was a Seagull S6 (cedar top).  I'd love to get a Fifth Ave too.

Nice that Strat looks great.

digi2t

Thanks slacker. It's a Bastard-caster. 1966 Mustang neck, grafted to a Mighty Mite mohog Strat body. Stew-mac Golden Age bridge, Ibanez S1 center, and no name trash can special in the neck slot. The neck pup actually sounds pretty good, and gets a lot of work. Got that in pieces from a guy in college back in 1982 or 83. I had a blond Goya Strat copy at the time, my very first guitar. I was 14. The Goya was a x-mas gift from my old man. He originally gave me a Colleco-vision video game (HA! remember those?), but my heart was set on the Goya. I'd been riding my bike past the music store all summer to gawk at it in the window, and was dropping hints right up to the holidays. When I saw a fairly square box under the tree, there was a lot of sadness in Whoville. In any case, I pasted a smile on my face, knowing that the console had cost my old man a pretty penny. After a couple of days, I approached my Dad and gave him the low down. I really wanted the Goya. He was shocked, thinking that I wasn't serious about the guitar. Besides, the Colleco-vision has the hot ticket that year, and any kid would have given his left nut for one. The old man figured he was on to a good thing. So, we repackaged the console, took it back to Consumer's Distributors, and got the cash back. I got the Goya a couple of days later. Fast forward a couple of years, I'm working at my college campas radio station. I'm hanging out in the lounge with my Goya, when a guy approaches me with a trade offer. The Mustang (in parts) plus 50$, for the Goya. By this point, I had grown tierd of the Goya, having liked it less and less over time as I learned to play. I agreed, and the rest is history. I fell in love with the shorter scale, and it had a richer sound than the Goya. As far as I'm concerned, I got the better deal.

Albeit, I did see a blond Goya Strat copy on EBay go for 900$ last year. Mine cost about 200$ back in the day. Go figure...

Really like the neck piece on the V, even though I'm not that flamboyant generally.

This one just makes me think of Prince for some reason.

How's that synth guitar sound?
Cool collection

digi2t

Thanks Skruf. The Dillion (synth Explorer) is actually very good. Since I run my rig in stereo, I can run the GR-50 on either the left, right, or both. I swapped out the pups on it for a set of GFS Dream 180's, and I can honestly say that it never lets me down. Great touch and action, very resonant body, and the neck is comfy as well. I really got lucky finding one at 300$! They're real hard to find now. All in all, a very versatile tool in the arsenal. The GK2 tracks pretty well too, but I'm no Vai, by any stretch of the imagination. It's more about tones and textures. That's why I've got 8 different fuzz boxes. The GR-50 is a wonderful tool.

As for the V, it was more an experiment in materials more than anything else. The body is 1.5" bookmatched maple, with a .25" bookmatched flame maple top. The neck is graphite, and the fretboard is rosewood. A very bright guitar, but the pups (GFS Crunchy PATS) have a real bark to them. It's really easy to pinch a screamer off this puppy.

The fabric finish was a BITCH to do. I used a polymer to seal everything in. I've never wet sanded so much in my life. I even painted helicopters for a living for a period of 5 years, but I think I wet sanded this body more. But, I wanted to try it. Veni, vidi, vici. I came, I saw, I got my ass kicked. Nuff said.

Cheers,
Dino

Thanks for the info, if you have any music in the netosphere I'd love to hear what you play with the gang.

Your inlays are beautiful.

I would like to take credit for the inlays, but alas, I cannot tell a lie. The fabric finish Ibez copy is a ready made neck, and the V`s fretboard comes from a guy in Vietnam. He does amazing inlay work, but you have to be very patient with the wood. I had to put it between plates, and weigh it down for 2 months for it to acclimate. Only then did I dare bond it to the graphite. I haven`t had a problem with it thus far.

I don`t have the facilities to build my own necks, so I`m restricted to off the shelf stuff. Bodies, no problem.

Hey Skruf, check the bottom of my posts, you should see a Soundclick link to the Asian Icemen website. That`s our band. The music is a bit off the wall, but all in good fun. We don`t have much there right now, since we`ve only been recording for 3 months, and it`s hard to balance work, family, etc. But, we`re always plugging away.

Cheers,
Dino

Here's a picture of my 2004 Fender Satin Midnight Blue Stratocaster, with an awesome scalloped neck mod done for me by Dean Cascione of DC Custom Guitars. I need to re-take this photo better. I just missed the sunlight this evening before it got overcast so I got this sucky 1/8th second exposure leaning a tripod over top. I wanted to get dramatic shadows to show the scallops off better. Because of the poor lighting the image looks blotchy up close but I'll try again on Sunday when the weather should cooperate more.
