Pore filler, yeah I'll need it.

About 40 USD at the local flea market. Electronics almost in order (one position of the switch is dead) and the neck looks straight.

If you wonder where the filler will go, here it is close up.

I think it was the human equivalent in destructive force (at least to guitars, but I suspect also clothes and other stuff), a fifteen year old punk rocker wannabe :icon_rolleyes:

Just home from buying a chicken filled ox bone and some feeler guages to be repurposed into slot files. Wonder if I can use the chicken filling for the body ;D

No idea, but rest assured, it's not there any more.

The pickguard is cleaned as is the body. Already looks much better.

The bone nut is half way there. I want to string the guitar up and have a test drive before starting with the fretboard.

I'm gonna order new pick up covers, back cover, knobs and switch tip. Costs just a few dollars.

haha @ that nail in the behringer strat ! Its surprising what some people will do to a guitar.

Nice find for the price tho! I been thinking about picking up a cheap strat copy for the body because I have an extra neck from my strat.(I got a custom made cocobolo neck for my strat)

I want to either buy a cheap body or make my own so I can chamber the body for weight and tone. And cover with veneer.

Wanna see yours when its all done! :D should have a before and after!

Love that classical guitars wood work from earlier post I think from dave! beautiful!!!!

Mike You have awesome guitars! I love em and the living room area looks great.

Let me just say this I'm not trying to rain on your set up Ill just say a few things.

There's a lot of debate about hanging guitars in many fashions. No matter who you want to listen to, weather its ok or not  just hear me out. The talk about putting stress on a neck from hanging or from a hook that mars the neck or the rope/string you have there that could leave a mark or indent on the headstock area Isn't a huge concern to me.

What is a concern to me when it comes to guitars/necks/wood is.... Humidity and hanging in an open room or even out on a stand isn't good. For years and  years I never thought anything about it. I heard things about humidity and have had issues with my guitars necks over the years and never put 2 and 2 together. Until I purchased an Oval hole gypsy style guitar which I will say is a bit thinner then my other guitars. But after playing next to an electric heater one winter It warped my neck fast. About 10 minutes of playing 5 feet away from an electric heater. Caused a fret to pop up and slightly twist the neck. So I started reading and reading and then talking to a local guitar Luthier.

This is more apparent to  people that live in cold areas in the winter or dry areas in general. furnaces basically create lots of dry air. But too much humidity is not good as well. I notice moving from upstairs in my house to downstairs the temp and humidity is way diff and my guitars respond almost instantly.

So basically what I'm saying is maybe the stress of hanging by the neck isn't the worst thing but sitting out all the time with changing temps and humidity is not great for any wood instrument. Just something to think about. I keep all my guitars in the cases when I'm not playing them and I rotate my case humidifier thru all the cases to keep levels around 50% + humidity.

So anyways sorry I don't mean to be a bummer I really do think it looks great and you have some wonderful guitars there! I just thought id mention it. Also I had this talk with the local guitar luthier and he suggested always keep em in the case. A few of my friends used to hang their guitars on their wall and they brought their guitars to me to fix their horrible action and dead frets. After fixing em up with a setup and leaving next to a humidifier for a few days I told em keep em in the case when your not playing it and they haven't had the same problems since. I use lemon oil often on my dark wood necks.

Maybe your room is temp/humidity stable and where you live it doesn't get cold like here in the Chicago area. Just something to keep in mind if you ever notice problems like your guitar just doesn't feel the same anymore.

I gotta take some new pics of my guitars and post em soon!

Thanks Mustachio. :)

I know there are tradeoffs with hanging vs. casing. Ultimately, I am willing to accept the possible problems in exchange for the ease of access. I suspect that hauling a guitar from gig to gig every weekend exposes it to greater swings in temperature and humidity than hanging on my wall. I've had some of these hanging for a few years now, and haven't had any problems. They even stay in tune pretty well.

I'm in Savannah, GA, but I'm originally from Chicagoland (south side!). The two climates are totally different. The temperature in Savannah has never been below 0F since they have been keeping records, and it rarely even drops below freezing. Our lowest average low is January, when it bottoms out at 39 degrees. We don't use our heat very much. We are considered subtropical, are built on marshes and swamp, and are about 40ft above sea level. Our humidity level rarely bottoms out, and we tend to condition when the humidity is high.

The guitars are hung with reinforced cotton rope meant for clothes lines. It's very soft, but still strong. It's hung from picture rail with the proper clips.

Now, the real concern: How can I convince you to ship me some Aurelio's pizza, some Pop's beef sandwiches, and a bag of cheese corn from Garrett's Popcorn? :P

Yep, those are D'Addario strings, they did that when they stopped putting the strings in individual envelopes and started putting them all in a sealed pouch.

I'm not ashamed to play a Behringer (if you can call what I do with guitars "playing").

Started leveling the frets last night with a home made tool, looks like it's coming along nicely. Having about $50 invested in this guitar it was still quite scary put a piece of sandpaper glued on a stick to the frets and start filing away  :icon_eek: But, well, well, new frets are only a couple of dollars on Evilbay should I need them ::)

This is certainly the sort of guitar to start on, but yeah, scary none the less.
