I am fairly sure its a top twenty now, cos of the missing round logo from the headstock

Hi - I have a guitar like this one too.
The whole thing was covered in black paint (body, neck scratchplate, everything) when I got it so I can't comment on the brand name, but it's definitely made in the late60s/70s. I'm pretty certain that the 1959 marking on Gilles' pickup doesn't refer to it's age.
This 'familly' of guitars generally date from around 1968 to the mid-70s. Woolworths sold them as Top Twenty and also Audition I think.
As the pickups on mine are weak, I've wired them in series for a bigger sound.

I've never seen an SE with three single coils, are they rare? Do they still make them? It looks laods different to a normal one, kind of weird...

Well, maybe it was an inspection number, or it was 69 date and my memory failed...

I can't check it because I gave it to a nephew to use it as long as he wish. The pickups are week indeed, and when I refinished it, I realised it wasn't real wood. It's made of plywood with a wood imitation on top of it. I wanted to strip it to bare wood first... so I lost a bit of interest about it because of that. 

Btw, I just found this site about Silvertone guitars, and I would say that mine was built by Teisco, by the look of the headstock, the pickups,  and the overall style of the guitar.

Definatly a Teisco. Dont know what name it was sold under but
Teisco made it.

Funny thing is that the Ibanez Artcore is consistently my favorite guitar and cost 1/3 as much as the next cheapest.

I did put some duncan humbuckers in it.

Yep..it`s another late 60`s, early 70`s, Japanese wonder. The Teisco company had been bought out by Kawai by this point so I guess you could say it`s a Kawai. Sold in department stores or through catalogues under various names. It may well have had a Kay badge. I`ve seen them badged as Heit Deluxe but I`ve got one with the Audition logo. Pete Shelley of the Buzz%^&*s used to play one apparently, bought in Woolworths some time in the 70`s.

Ever wondered why the cheapo department store guitars have been reduced to black strat copies these days? I'd love them continue their Kay/Teisco line of design instead.

Oh man... I tried out two of those at the Emerald City Guitars, a blackguard and a Coral Red.  They both blew me away.  Very nice price for how good they play.  Somehow, that will be my next one....
