I worked with what I had, can't complain about free wood!

that's what she said.

Nice.  Way to bring some class into the thread.

How do you like those Alumitone pickups on bass? I've got a bass with a single EMG 40, and I've been curious about trying one of these for a different sound.

I'd imagine, if they don't fit in the already cut slots, just get a Dremel with some sort of small routing or filing bit and just contour out the space that you need for the Alumitones.

I see from their website that the Lace Alumitone 4.0" Bass Bar is a direct replacement for the EMG 40. I just wanted to hear your opinion on how they sound on bass.

Thanks,

Stagg R500 with Seymour Duncan '59 4 con in the neck and Custom 5 in the bridge. I've upgraded the nut and tuners and I've added push/pull coil cut and master series/parallel switches.

Squier Jagmaster with GFS Dream 180 in the neck and Mean 90 in the bridge. I love the look of this guitar with chrome pups. I've put in a coil cut toggle switch for the Dream 180.

These guitars both sounded mucky with the stock pickups, but I'm amazed how much they improved with good pups. Also, I'm very impressed with the GFS pickups, and I'd say they're as good as the Duncans in the right guitar. The Dream 180 neck especially has a great full but jangly sound.

I have not run it though a proper bass amp but they sound really nice in my opinion. They are very true I would say if your looking for character I don't think I would suggest them  but for being true and clear I like them

Ooh, that's lovely.

Two pickup selectors?

Thanks markeebee,

This is 1980 model, and at that time ES-335's were fitted stock with a coil (very useful for me) tap coil switch (single coil/humbucker).

I gotta stop drinking that cheap stuff.  For a moment it looked like there were seven strings on that guitar.  Wait a minute.  THERE ARE!  :icon_eek:

I know someone with a Schecter Damien 7 which is another 7-string.  He tunes the low string to A (people generally use either A or B) to get some towering metal chords.  Sounds like you are ready for the kind of music that would go great with one of the page 666 stompboxes.  :icon_twisted:

Hi & Thanks, Gila_Crisis,

Very nice matching pieces on the body's woodwork of your - yes - seven string axe. It seems to be very classy guitar too, very reminescent of the great natural finishes in fashion at the start of the eighties, far from the usual brutal look associated to this kind of instrument...

And moreover, I would be able to play it... Because it's a lefty one !

Might as well post pics of my fiddles too.

J&D LC3. New pots, Tonerider Rocksong pickups  :icon_cool: + Tusq nut

Squire Bullet Stratocaster. Second pic shows newer Gotoh tuners+ Stewmac vintage-style bridge.
The stock ones are totally awfull. Pickups on the other hand are the genuine, rock'n'roll sounding stuff.

eheh, thank you tubelectron! the top wood is macassar ebony, while the body is korina and the neck mahogany with ebony fretboard.
yep, although 7 strings are associated with metal, actually you can play everything on this guitar! the pickups (I-Spira, it's an italian brand, handmade) are really dynamic and react a lot to your playing stile.
