^ Is that scalloping asymetric (deeper on the higher strings than the low)?  Any chance of a close-up, or even dimensions (top of fret to bottom of scallop)?

Is the truss rod single acting (curved inside the neck, skunk stripe on back), or dual acting?

How do you like it, and have you played other scalloped necks?

I think the scallops are the same depth along the neck. They just touch the little fret marker dots on the side. The back of the neck has a skunk stripe. It's a Standard $400 Strat, made in Mexico. This was the first scalloped neck I had played on. Dean Cascione (neoclassical guitarist and custom guitar maker from the Boston, MA area) did the scallop job for me. At first I resisted for a long time because I didn't know if I would like it and didn't want to ruin my first real Fender Strat. But I finally gave in and as a favor he did it 'pro bono' since we've helped each other out for a long time. Very nice guy. What I like about scalloped necks is you do have better control or grip with your fingers on the strings and doing bend vibrato is much smoother since there is no wood friction. Since then I bought a mint condition used Yngwie Malmsteen signature Strat from him. I love them both but getting back into my Satin Midnight Blue Strat with the hum-free YJM Fury pickups I put in last week. Before the pickup upgrade I used to hate the hum so I used the Yngwie Strat more. Now it's back to the other way around!

Cool, thanks for the info!  I've never played a scalloped neck, I think I'm going to try this on a cheapie.....

rousejeremy

I had a couple scalloped neck guitarists back in my shred days. I think I prefer not feeling the fretboard under my fingers. I'd like to try one again sometime, I bet it makes pedal steel type bends a lot easier since I use 11's.

never tried a scallop neck, but my only concern with a very deep scallop would be increased fret wear maybe.......just thinking aloud.

@steve: re hum: haven't you shielded the strat guts with copper?..

i decided i was bored with black guitars..so as a long weekend project i took this old black crapocaster and butchered it for the better and painted it white/primer+ clearcoats.. 8)...

ive set it up really nice now, adjusted the neck truss rod/action/ replaced the crappy trem with a floyd / ..plays awesome now, stays in tune better too even with abuse.... :icon_twisted:

Nope. I was going to shield the cavity but a couple years ago got a 2003 Fender Yngwie Malmsteen Stratocaster (Candy Apple Red) and then didn't play my Satin Midnight Blue Strat much anymore. Now after replacing my pickups with YJM Fury's I haven't touched the Yngwie Strat since! I'm having a love affair again with my Midnight Mistress <3

@deadastro

What kind of humbucker you got in there? It almost looks like the Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine edition

I have those in my Ibanez and they are friggin' SWEET! Great tone and they can sustain a note forever  ;D

Regardless of the electronics... that is one SWEET looking axe!  :icon_cool:

I especially love the Kramer-style headstock. Gives it a retro look until you get down to the body which looks almost futuristic  :icon_twisted:
