im sure all of you have heard of the keely mods to the ds 1,
and im thinking of doing them to my own ds 1 ,
but what i would like to kno, is what does what
here is the link to the website to the instruction on how to to the mods
http://www.geocities.com/overdrivespider/DS1/keeleyds1.htm

and here are the parts (the web sites show it but ill put it here anyway)

0.1uF Capacitor x 5
1uF Capacitor x 4 (or two 0.47uF caps in parallel, it should give the same results)
0.047uF Capacitor x 1
3mm LED x 1 (I bought two so I didn't have to use the one that you take out of the DS-1)
on/on SPDT switch
2.4k Resistor x 1
20k Resistor x 1
1.5k Resistor x 1
220pf Cap x 1
47pf Cap x 1

wich parts to what to your tone

id like to kno what does what , so i could put in the mods that i want, instead of putting them all in to see how they sound

thanks

Blaze

Don't know much about the sound properties but I used this( http://www.monteallums.com/Product_links.html#DS1DRectifier) on my DS-1 and is is AWESOME!

Use the SEARCH button for ds-1 mods and you'll get a bunch of them here.  I changed a resistor value (sorry don't remember which) for more gain and messed with the clipping diodes.  It screams!!!

The Gain Resistor is R13. It's 4.7K stock. I lower it down to 2.2K or even 1K. I like 1N4002 or LED's for the diodes.

I recently stumbled across that page also and did the ASE mod to mine and it sounds great.  You should also check out this thread

melanhead has got some pretty sweet sounds out of his and I might change some parts to what he used

Im not really sure what mods do what tho, thats a little too advanced for me right now =P

Melanhead

Yup ...thanks ...They can sound pretty sweet if you play around a bit ... That reminds me! I have one sitting on my bench, half modded, haven't touched it in about 6 months! ... I should probably finish it some day  :icon_mrgreen:

This is what I was kinda looking for...with all the mods talked about, I wanted to see what each mod was actually doing circuit wise.  With the help of some DIY'ers I was directed to a bunch of mod posts and a few circuit links. There is a ton of info here...should keep anyone busy for a while :icon_mrgreen:

that's why i love the search feature, any time i have an idea or question someone else has usually asked it before me and i get the answer instantly!  There always seems to be at least a couple of threads on whatever i need to know.

Hi folks. I1m new to this forum (registered a while ago, but haven't written my first post until now.

As so many others, I'm about to modify my DS-1. I am almost done, the only thing thats left is that dull LED. I've replaced the stock red one with a green. Where on the circuit board is the LED connected? I am gonna lower the resistor value to get it brighter.

Thanks.

the rectifier mod is an excellent mod.  i used it myself and i highly recommend it if you want a good all around "in yo face" distortion.

Thanks. I've been looking at that side a lot, but still I didn't see it :icon_redface:

I built a DS-1 clone from Tonepad's layout and used the original 7 pin chip (along with various deviations from stock capacitor values to sculpt the tone for my ears/rig).  After playing with various clipping diodes, etc, I left them out altogether - with no clippers to ground and with the gain maxxed it sounds really nice and meaty - very, very nice; really clean with gain at minimum but plenty of meaty drive with gain at max.
