I am a big fan of Paul Gilbert and have noticed he gets some great sounds out of an EH poly chorus and Electric Mistress. I read theirwebsite about the filter matrix switch and wonder if this is a mod that you can do to other flangers.

"The ultimate flanger The Electric Mistress' array of critically notched and tuned filters gracefully sweep the sound spectrum, creating shimmering, ethereal passages that are truly out of this world. Exclusive "Filter Matrix" mode disengages the automatic sweep, allowing manual positioning of the filter bank to achieve chime-like metallic tones and other unique effects."

I have an FL-9 that sounds okay but not wild enough for me. Anyone tried this or looked inside their EH or while building the GGG clone

Cheers

All it does is switch the LFO to a voltage applied by a pot.

thanks Stephen

How do I indentify the LFO on my ibanez circuit board? It's pretty well labelled inside. I already tweaked the regen trim to get more zoom out of the regen pot and am up for some more tinkering

Also I saw your name in the A/DA flanger posts on one of the versions, can you tell me are the different versions are to cope with availability of ICs? I couldn't find a post which talked about the pros and cons of each

UTSF, A/DA flanger. Scroll down to "A/DA flanger does TZF?". There is loads of info about component choices/values/revs/etc. there. It's a real big thread, so brew yourself a big pot of strong coffee first  ;).
IMHO, If your FL9 is a vintage piece, think carefully before doing any mods. The LFO "off" mod would necessitate drilling a hole and adding a switch.
Good Luck, and Happy Reading!

Mystery lounge. No tables, chairs or waiters here. In fact, we're all quite alone.

To get the filter matrix mode you just need to turn the width to 0 on the FL9, at least this works on th FFL and SF10, it's successors.
then you can control the notchfrequencies with the manual pot and the lfo has no effect.

My amp is out of action at present but I'll definitely try the mod free suggestion. I found a lot of great flanger stuff at www.modezero.com just today, along with the explanations here I'm a bit more clued up about my favourite yellow box.

I'm just about to get stuck into the 'a/da flanger does TZF' posts now, thanks for everyone's contributions and wish me luck
