I know Bankica is meant to be working on a box layout program, I didnt know if it was going to be 3d, so I decided I would start creating my own library of parts...

I am a design engineer/CAD technician and therefore have access to a great program called Unigraphics...

Here's what I knocked up this morning... I plan to model jacks, sockets, switches, etc... so I can lay them out in the box and get the measurements for drilling my boxes... it's probably overkill, but hey, I'm an engineer, its my job! haha

Let me know what you think!

Those look great!
To bad the real ones don't look that good :icon_neutral:

nice one!

I have some models of the switches made in solidworks. We could build a big parametric library.

I've always used PS for my layouts, but I've thought about throwing together some 3d models at times, since I own a couple of nice 3d programs (Silo, XSI). But considering how many individual parts would have to be modeled I always stuck to the lazy method. Anyway, nice work!

Can you make, dxf, iges, step, formats of them?

Nothing a little sanding wouldnt cure...

If I was getting into this building bigtime, or to sell... I would buy a load of enclosures and send them to an engineering firm (or in my case the toolroom where I work! haha) and get them surface ground, so they looked beautiful...

I might actually bring one to work and get it ground up, see what it looks like! haha

Super awesome. Nice idea ;)

It'd be too much to ask if you could introduce the box sizes 123x12x32 as an example, and it would create an ugly, square edge box, but just ffor those who doesn't live where you can buy hammonds and would put any value.. to have an aproximate drill pattern. Some day.. hahah :P

bye bye
