simple schematic for a crossover or band split

I want to make a wacky fuzz for a bassist friend who wants an extreme tone that retains a lot of bottom end  & body.
I  had the idea of splitting the sound @ a given frequency (eg 1k) & sending everything above that to a really extreme fuzz & leaving intact everything below .
I have plenty of leads for crazy fuzz, but does anyone have any ideas/links/schematics about how to make that crossover/ bandsplit.
